Little July 4th ride, first time I’ve done 2 laps. Loving it thus far, but resisting the urge to want to get a different bike. My little Trail 8 does well, but I’m already ~$400 deep in upgrades, and to fix my other gripes (chain skipping/dropping and dropper post), I’d need to spend another $450 or so. REALLY wanting a Trek Roscoe 7…

Damn, this thread brings back memories when I was in pretty decent shape (cardiowise) riding some sick trails back in the day. My poor KHS is still hanging in my parent's garage. I'd probably keel over if I did the exact same ride today lmao.

New *brake* day! The stock 160mm mechanicals weren’t cutting it. Upped to 180mm and some Shimano MT200s. Sadly it started pouring rain just as I finished up so I didn’t get to test them yet.

I'm going to keep bumping this thread lol. Went to a new trail today, it's on an old landfill. Was loving it, then it started raining out of nowhere. I went down and landed on some glass. Cut my hand real bad, had to ride another 3 miles out of the woods dripping... Had to get 5 stitches, stay safe out there!

Well that didn’t take long… NEW BIKE DAY! Yesterday was my first time ever visiting the trek store near my house, and they got a Roscoe 7 in that morning, in my size!! Wife said “Absolutely not, you have to sell your bike first.” Posted the Cannondale on Marketplace, was gone in less than 4 hours. Now the proud owner of a 2023 Trek Roscoe 7.

Quite funny the name of the trail as I`m currently reading the book Dune!

Have you always ridden clips? Never tried it, even the thought makes me tense up.

Both lovely bikes. My buddy had a black 5010, had a great crash on his first ride. Will see if I can dig out the video as it`s rather amusing

Yes, I have ridden clips since 1992, tired flats in the PNW a while back on a rental and really hated that experience.

The next day my PNW loam grips and ridge pedals came in. Idk why the bike even came with pedals…

Did a nice little break in ride today. Was actually closer to 14 miles, Strava randomly paused, hence the straight line. 1.5 hours of ride time, 2:44 of total time. Trails weren’t marked very well so I spent a lot of time checking my map. Had a blast though, and the bike performed amazingly. A million times better than the Cannondale. Pedals got my knee pretty good, and a stitch popped out my hand, definitely worth it though.

Very nice, mate!

I hit up the local bike park on Saturday - had some nice runs before the rain came.

Quick little lunch ride today, loving my Roscoe. Anyone here tubeless? I kind of want to try it.

Yeah, used tubeless to varying degrees since 2007. I find it hard to ignore, but it's a right pain when it goes wrong. I pinch flatted a dual ply tyre last week...that was annoying. Still not taken the time to fix it up yet.

If you're not having any issues with tubes, there's no real point in changing; they're lower maintenance but their weaknesses are pinch flats and thorns.

The fact that I pinch flatted a tyre (not a tube) probably tells you all you need to know about why I use it.

The battery died halfway through my 50K ride yesterday so I was unable to download the data to my chart.

Long Sunday ride. Trying to hit 100 miles on the new bike by the end of July. Currently at 65 miles in just under 2 weeks of ownership.

I didn't know you were that close to me - I am right on the border of TN/NC near Asheville. Hit me up if you ever wanna ride up here in the mountains. Dupont is fantastic.

I'm headed to Sugar for some downhill park fun this Friday - if you are up for it, message me and we can do a few runs together assuming the weather doesn't cancel my plans.

Regarding your earlier tubeless question - I swear by it. Much less rolling resistance, but most of all - (a) I can run much lower pressures and get a lot more grip in the turns and also (b) on long trail rides, I no longer have to carry a tube - I just carry a CO2 canister and some bacon strips - way less weight and stuff to load up.

Having recently got a pinch flat on a dual ply tubeless tyre (not a tube), the other day I installed a cushcore insert in a fresh dual ply tyre. Let's see if I get on any better with it this weekend...

If I don't, next thing will be a tubolito or similar TPU tube

You are probably the 6th person to mention Dupont, I will DEFINITELY have to check it out. Sugar Mtn looks like fun, but I don't have a full face yet so I'll hold off for now. I'd love to ride together though and if I'm ever in your area I'll shoot you a PM. If you ever make it over to the Mountain Creek area let me know, it's the nicest park I've been to (only been to 3 bike parks total...)

Have you been to Berm Park? I assume it's busier than most places due to the YT appeal, but I'd like to try it out. Heard it's a long steep climb for short downhills, then it's rinse and repeat.

Berm park? That does not sound like fun to me I'd much prefer muddy rut park

Yeah - I went to BP once - and we have such good stuff right here in my backyard, I didn't feel it was worth the trip. The runs are very small - like 1 or 2 min runs.

There is another bike park in Asheville that I like substantially better. Dupont is more XC style, but if you like long climbs followed by long flow trails that are miles long, it's an amazing place. Much less techy than Pisgah.

For sure man - always up for a riding buddy if in the area.
