Your friend knows nothing if he thinks traction control makes a car handle well.

That's actually been something a lot of purist have been pointing out about BMW. The cars are just getting too heavy. The E92 outweighs the C6, the Cayman S, and lots of other cars by hundreds of pounds. At some point in the future I see BMW releasing a 2-ton 3 series.

Umm, you know the 335i and M3 are nearly exactly the same weight.
Road and Track weighed the E92 335i and got a whopping 3,635 lbs sans driver. The E92 M3 by comparison is 3,649 lbs sans driver.

BMW and Cadillac, competing for fattest car 2011. I like the sound of that.

It's not just BMW, it's everyone. I'm just gonna post some vehicles' curb weights. Check it.
(I rounded the last digits on all of them) E90 328i: 3290 E92 335i: 3580 E92 M3: 3700 C300: 3530 C350: 3620 C63: 4030! IS250: 3450 IS350: 3520 IS-F: 3780 B8 A4 2.0: 3660 B8 A4 3.2: 3860 B7 RS4: 3810 G35S: 3530 G37S: 3620 CTS DI: 3860 CTS-V: 4220! Not one car in that list has a sub-3,300 lb curb weight (besides the 328i, which only barely makes the cut). That's horrible. I'm questioning the C63's weight listed here. It's hard to find a definite answer, but I saw 4030 pop up more than a couple of times so that's the one I used.

Actually, that's probably unlikely. I don't have the source, but pretty much what BMW (and moreover M GmbH) stated was that the majority of their focus will be on reducing weight and Efficient Dynamics.

If my friend spoke like that he would no longer be my friend. What an immature loser.

Weren't they trying this w/ the current M3? It's lighter than the competition but as a whole I'm not feeling it. Lighter V8 than the previous I6, and CFRP roof, but the thing is around 200-300 lbs heavier than the previous car, and around 100-200 lbs heavier than the vanilla 335i.

By the way -- my previous car that I traded in for the M3... guess what it was? A Saturn Sky Red line I absolutely loved it.. 1) but it just isn't practical for daily use. It's uncomfortable for long trips (though mine did get around 36 mpg when I did pure highway at 65 mph in 5th). Thus the reason I was in the market for something else (went with the E93 because I didn't want to lose the convertible aspect). 2) The red line handles really, really well -- but it's no M3 (haven't driven a 335). I would imagine the 335 and Sky redline probably have similar handling performance. 3) The reliability of the Saturn engine -- is great. The reliability of the Saturn interior? Not so good, and certainly no BMW. It's cheap plastic that falls apart, even on the Red Line. The Sky Redline engine though is a damn beast -- as is the regular Sky (there are plenty of people in the low 11's in the base Sky with big turbos and stock internals). After all, it does weigh < 3,000 lb. 4) The red line is a REALLY fast car from a dig, but after 1st and 2nd gear are done -- it's useless. Completely, utterly, freaking useless. Horrid gearing, too by the way. 5) OnStar SUCKS. I ended up dropping it in my redline because I couldn't take it any more. The damn thing would tell you when to turn after you already passed the street -- and there's no heads up display so it's useless if you're using it in a crowded city (I.e., Washington, DC). 6) The sky seat belts suck. They always get stuck behind it and end up taking forever to maneuver back around just so you can us them. Again, back to the practicality issue here. 7) I'm not sure about the speakers, but he's probably right -- the M3 doesn't have as much bump as the Sky did. 8) Sky's head lights are epic fail times four. 9) I wish I had iDrive in my sky. Goddamn Saturn needs to put Navigation in that thing. 10) Is he seriously complaining about the 335 cup holders? Tell you what -- Wait until his cup holder on the right side pops out, and sit in as it's popping out. Guarantee you break it. The cup holders in the Sky are pieces of shit. 11) The sky fully loaded is $32k -- the Red Line is $35k (I'm figuring performance addons here -- truly fully loaded). The fully loaded 335 with sport packages are ~$48k, yes? 12) With a solid driver the 335 will be faster than the Sky Redline. 13) He's got you on looks IMO. If you want proof I owned a Sky before -- go to http://www.skyroadster.com/ -- my username is the same.

Some had different tires, a catback on the car, and an upgraded intercooler -- but that's not enough to warrant 4 tenths is it?. The 0-60 time sounds about right... I think it was closer to 5.5 and the 1/4 was 13.8 from what I was seeing people run. I do see a lot of review magazines showing similar statistics, but damn -- either people were really good drivers, or the upgrades made a LOT of a difference. Again though -- after 1st and 2nd gear, that sky is utterly useless.
