I gave up the lawn last year, pesticides and chemical weed killers are banned here so the natural stuff is utterly useless. Keeping a lawn decent is a BRUTAL exercise in cost and time, basically your grass has to be UBER thick to prevent weed growth so you need to aerate, seed and cover in an inch or so of topsoil and water like fucking crazy and avoid stepping on it for like a month.
Fuck that shit, had enough of it, seriously eye-watering expensive and the weed pulling is backbreaking and time consuming. SERIOUSLY considering planting more clover. Thick, lush green with zero maintenance other than mow and trim and is so thick the dandelions can't get a foothold. |

You're good until the actual soil temp is 55f. Also any frost will kill crabgrass. Longer you can wait the better, plus hitting it again with pre-emergence in the summer will be a big help in control. Crabgrass LOVES hot and dry areas like along drives and walks.

I doubt even 1MOREMOD could boast that kind of growth in 6 days

I overseeded the crabgrass with tall fescue and topped with a mix of soil and peat last Nov. we had near record rainfall (12") in the last 3-4 months. I was able to time the application of 3 different fertilizers to the heaviest storms, and now we have bright sun/70 between weekly light showers

I started the mower last night just to remind myself that nice weather and the smells of spring do exist.
It was 50 degrees on Sunday. Today I drove into work and it was 31 and windy.

I mowed the grass for the first time yesterday. I don't know what kind it is but the blades are thin and the grass itself is pretty thick. We also have a climbing rose bush as the center focal point and it is starting to flower.
I'm working on finding a birdfeeder that will mount to that back fence.

I had one of these big boys in the past, but the raccoons chewed the rope I had hung it with and it fell to the ground with about 10 pounds of bird seed in it and it kind a got tweaked... Was sort of hard to clean, but it was a pretty good value and well-built.
I might go for a more expensive feeder. There is a local store called wild birds unlimited that has feeders they guarantee to never break/etc. Wild birds unlimited also has very sturdy birdfeeder mounts and poles.

i've been watching a lot of bat videos... the prime spots for roosting are pretty basic- warm enough, high enough, secure from predators (thin walled area), and water within a mile or two. other than that, they don't really care about people nearby.
so if one of those things is not right, they just keep looking. one of the interesting things is bats can not "take off" in flight. they have to fall about three feet to get air under their wings and start flapping. if they fall to the ground or have a weird obstruction, they pass on that roosting spot. they have to climb back up to fall from something to try to fly again, and they are very susceptible to predators on the ground.

WTH you guys are really trying to have bats? that's a new one lol! i'll have to check out some YouTube videos on that. regarding hanging the bird feeder I just thought a simple tie it onto a branch would suffice? we don't have squirrels in the neighborhood or raccoons. I see dead raccoons on the main roads but never seen any raccoons running through the neighborhood?

lol i'll have to pay more attention at dusk and see if i spot any flying around. bats are serious insect control and are known to help with insect control. i don't have any trees in my backyard, so i have to have a feeder arm that attaches to the fence you see in the above pics.
