Video no go.
We had our golf trip and I sat out due to hammy. Then they decided to run it at night and I was way to sh!tfaced to setup my camera. I watched him run 4 different guys and he beat all of them. I wish we could have done it on video but that's all I got Here are the pics from the golf trip in case anyone is interested: https://flic.kr/s/aHskanqEsw

Back in my UofT football days (11 years ago) as a running back/punt returner and before I tore both my ACL's I ran a 4.62 forty. 195lbs at 5'11, not NFL or even CFL speed, but still considered quick, but I was more shifty than breakneck speed fast.
In my time attending combines, I never saw anyone run a sub 4.5 40. So these numbers are "awesomeness" to this...

Total BS on the times claimed at the beginning of this thread. I played at Penn State and ran a 5.1 laser timed as a tight end. Fast guys were around 4.7s and the fastest was Ki-jana Carter running 4.4s who was picked number 1 overall in the next years NFL draft.

I think the majority of us clearly stated in the thread that all times were hand timed. I have never been laser timed in the 40. I was laser timed in the 100 10.7. No need to lie I'm not even sure where to get laser tested. Give me some time and I will gladly post a 4.5 hand timed 40lbs over weight at 240.

I ran a 4.4 senior year of hs before tearing my knee up and losing a scholarship. Just recently raced a guy at work and ran around 5.1. I never run, only lift, and lift heavy and pretty sure we both pulled our hammies. Both collapsed over the finish line lol

BS is strong in this thread.
What a joke... Sorry, but you clowns, me included, aren't running 4.5... Ridiculously bad timing, 30yds instead of 40, or just straight BS. Even being reasonably athletic, I doubt anyone is breaking 5.0, especially with the height/weight stats some posted, which are probably BS too. Internet 6'4 = 5'11 in real life. |

Jeez relax... Do you heckle comedians too?
Also, a couple of you are saying its impossible that there are some really fast guys (at least for 40 yds) that are NOT college or pro players? Come on.

Sir if you watch pro sports and see what the most gifted athletes on the planet go through to train and prepare it is practically impossible for so many 30+ year old guys to get up from their desk and run sub 5 sec 40's. A blistering fast athlete will run 4.3-4.5, an average pro athlete is is probably in the 4.7 area. Under 4.3 maybe 5 guys in the nfl can do that and I think its only been recorded 4 or 5 times ever at the combine!! So like others have said most regular guys even if fairly active will be slower than 5 seconds.

Here is some perspective for some of you who honestly think you can run a sub 5 sec 40, this is pitting you against 19-21 year olds at the combine who are literally running to earn millions.
Average time by position[edit] According to a five-year NFL combine report, wide receivers and cornerbacks had the fastest average times at 4.55, followed by running backs at 4.59. The following average times were measured between 2008-2012 at the NFL combine.[14] Position Time Wide receiver 4.55 Cornerback 4.55 Running back 4.59 Safety 4.62 Outside Linebacker 4.74 Tight End 4.77 Fullback 4.80 Inside Linebacker 4.80 Quarterback 4.87 Defensive End 4.88 Defensive Tackle 5.13 Offensive Center 5.30 Offensive Tackle 5.32 Offensive Guard 5.36 |

Unless my math is off, a 5 sec 40 is 16.5 miles per hour average over the span. This just doesn't seem that unreasonable to me.

I ran a 4.58 hand timed about 9 years ago... I ran track very heavily and could run the 100M in 11.45... (if you know what that means, then the 40 yd time is very possible). I also ran the 400 in 53.5 seconds. I was on the school 4X100 as well as 4X400... height was 5 ft 8, weight about 165... vertical was quite good too... I could dunk a Mini Basketball in the GYM. If I could go out NOW and break 1 minute in the 400M, I would be extremely proud of myself lol.

your math is way off because you start from 0, so the first ten yards or so when you are obviously running much slower than that has to be made up for over the rest, so your peak speed would have to be much more than that. if you got a running start your math would be correct. Look at our cars and there trap speeds, your down average anywhere near that number down the track
