SM? It is vile cesspool of narcissism. Out in public, I am terribly unkind and judgmental to those with 'down syndrome'---everyone looking 'down' at their phone.
Social Media is why I think modern civilization is in decline.

i think its ok to a degree. its just that alot of people dont realize that most of what you see is fake. filters, photoshop, giant loans on expensive things, etc. nobody posts about the bad stuff.

it can turn into an addiction like drugs, sugar, or caffeine.

2012-2014 had a FaceCrook account.
Here is what I learned and why it got deleted.

1. Individual I wanted nothing to do with could find me. Even bullies/azzholes from distant past.

2. Coworkers sent friend requests. Butt-hurt when declined.

3. Long lost extended family pop up. All friendly catching up for a week. 50% asks to borrow $$.

4. Friend whips out phone cam while we are at a bar drunk. uploads and tagged me. Now everyone sees me drunk at a bar on my personal time. Even coworkers, boss.

5. Stupid junk post sharing.

I just deleted it and decided to stay a social media dinosaur.

Snap crap- nope
What's crap- nope
Gookle- nope

Yes, but with limitations and not mainstream as it is narrowed down to a niche.

No FB or anything like that. Life much easier. People who want to stay in contact with you will. FB is nice to see what family is doing since we're spread across the country, but that's about it's only use.

Working in IT, I know better than to use any social media. My wife doesn't use it either. Neither of us have ever opened an account, and are probably the last people in civilization who have not accepted Farcebook's shrink-wrapped terms of service to sell our souls to the highest bidder.

I get a chuckle out of my family, always asking why I don't answer their Farcebook crap when they send it to me. Apparently, they are all friends with some stranger on Farcebook who has my name. When I couldn't make the family holiday gathering a few years ago, I suggested that they invite Farcebook me instead...and pray that he/she/bot was not an axe murderer.....

I remember a family cruise being set up years back over Farcbook after I deleted it.

My brother would have to call me on the phone to ask me if I was going/ details/ etc.. Now, right there I could see the benefits of Farcbook with the group thing. I was the only black sheep. But it it takes just one person in the group to expose you on and on and on. Next thing you know , you're trying to toggle all these security options and hiding friends list, blocking people, my goodness forget it!!!!

I think it started way before that. TV, and especially "reality TV," is where stupid became ingrained in people. Viewers expected more and more outlandish and crude behavior as they became inured to the flood of boorish behavior.
