275's are adequate otherwise it wouldnt run low 11's, they're not the widest but i wouldn't call em skinny.

With track traction control on, i'm pretty sure it's not putting down 707 hp /650 tq when traction becomes an issue. It might have 100lb-ft WTQ than an M4 but it weighs a 1,000lb more.

An inch wider tires (305's) wouldn't have made a difference with traction control off even on dry pavement. I guess 305's are skinny tires too when you have 707 hp.

Did you ever see the Hellcat press event? The cars would spin, spin, spin. Not even an SRT engineer, or whatever he was, couldn't get the car to hook up and run the advertised 0-60 times. That was even with the launch control.

305s would have been the minimal tire size for the rears. But nothing for the owners to do now but to go out and get some bigger tires.

The owners need stickier drag radials, not an inch wider street tires (305's) and the Hellcat runs mid 10's with traction off.

Richard Rawlings runs high 10's, the car didnt just spins its tires, the launch control worked pretty good.

If you believe that Richard, himself, ran a high 10 in that car.....then I'll show give my time machine.

Launch control does work when you know what to do and have a good surface that works with your tires that are properly air'd.

I jokingly said that at it's price point a lot of well to do rednecks will end up wrapping these around telephone poles...

Glad the driver is ok though, having something like that happen and being able to walk away with your life (and the passengers onboard) is a testament to how safe modern cars are...however as with most cars pushing that much power, owners really need to attend a driving course geared towards teaching people the limits of physics. I hope the driver learned an important lesson that you can lose control even on straights if you aren't careful. You don't need to be on the Nurburgring to find yourself in trouble with regards to pushing a car to more than what the tires can handle.

I took a performance driving class years ago with Lexus (they had just released the first gen IS-F and it was a good way for them to get potential buyers behind the wheel of a different Lexus...one that wouldn't put you to sleep as you drove it) and it was one of the most useful things I've ever done as far as learning and practicing vehicle control at it's limits.

Shame you don't have to do things like that just to get a driver's license. The kind of stuff you learn there can be the difference between life or death be it a Bugatti Veyron or a Toyota Prius.

You need stickier tires,not wider street tires.

Richard times are in line with the NHRA certified quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds at 125mph with stock Pirelli P275/40ZR20 P Zero tires, and 10.8 seconds at 126mph with street legal drag radials.

Back when i had my mid 11second 335i, it ran mid 11's on 245's M/T ET drag radials, high 11's on wider 275's and 255's street tires.

I was telling you that it was not Richard that ran the impressive 10.8 on DRs. I'm sure of it, if he did run 10.8 on DRs then anyone can. Reason why I say no, is of all of the camera angle changes.

The stock rears on a GTR are 285s, it weighs some 700 lbs less than a Challenger, and oh what's that other thing it has? Oh yeah...AWD. That means all four wheels get traction.

On Dec 19, it was dark , you have a sports car on the twisties,add reckless driving( based on the skid marks) on summer tires with outside temps around 30.8F, your conclusion? Blame the car.

It doesnt only apply to Rednecks, same conditions,put a hipster driving recklessly behind the wheel of an M3 on skinny 275's in the rear, you can expect the same results.

Also, it's pretty silly to assume a guy driving a Challenger Hellcat outside of Denver is a Redneck.

No, no it is not. Anyone who buys a Challenger is a redneck. Even if they weren't before, they become a redneck immediately upon purchase. The mullet is included. And yes there are plenty of rednecks in Colorado. Ever been there? It's not all potheads and hippies. There are plenty of farmers, rednecks, cowboys, and others.

I'm not sure why you are so sensitive about this, V1.47.0582'rxjqz5, but I'm not trying to blame the car. I think I was pretty clear that as I said, it was bound to happen when you put a redneck (especially one who isn't used to fast cars) in a high power car without enough tire or handling. If a 275 isn't enough tire for an M4, and its not, it's definitely not enough for a 4500 lb 700 hp Dodge.
