It's pretty scary to me that you have a Series 7 and seem to have little to no clue about investing.

I'd recommend this book for investing.

It's an entry-level test "financial professionals" take so they can sell security products.

I have a clue, I'm merely asking for clues from others as well.

If he’s acting like he knows nothing to get a different type of input, well....that’s a form of trolling as well

No troll sir. I have a Series 7 from many years ago. I worked for Edward Jones for about a year. It was a bit of a whirlwind if I'm honest, you learn all sorts of things you don't need in order to pass the test, then you're really just a politician because the BOA does all the real work.

I'm only trying to get the new take on things. My time with EJ wasn't a positive experience on several levels. I'm not trying to be dishonest in my asking for help.

Yes it's because of the Hong Kong legislation so talks with China have stalled. Should rebound tomorrow obviously don't sell. Though the trade news broke over the weekend so I would have waited till just before the close to buy.

Lots of love for Vanguard on here.

I use Fidelity, they have zero cost index funds, but their regular index funds fees have been reduced to a point where it's negligible.

Figure out your risk propensity for your age and make a "3 Fund Portfolio" or a 2 fund portfolio of index funds (Domestic stocks/International Stocks/Bonds) or (Domestic stocks/Bonds). Play with the % of each for your risk propensity.

I work in the field and a lot of those so called financial advisors are just sales people.

How about VTSMX?

I've been lurking for the past few days to learn and did some research. Why are there more than one term for mutual fund? AKA index fund.

Never come across it.

Would be interesting to see the correlation of VTSMX and VIX

Index fund is a type of mutual fund, but not vice versa.

A mutual fund is an investment program funded by shareholders that trades in diversified holdings and is professionally managed actively or passively.

Index funds usually are mutual funds that follow a specific index, AKA S&P 500, total stock market, International total stock market, etc. Index funds tend to be cheaper to hold as there is nobody actively managing them.

I don't like having to pay anyone to manage anything. I just own stock and manage it myself. Costs me nothing and I even get dividends to reinvest or cash out.

Investing yourself is great if you can do it properly, most people cannot, which is the appeal of index funds.

Index fund expense ratios are extremely low nowadays. For example Fidelity's S&P 500 index fund FXAIX is 0.015% ER, which equates to $0.15/$1000. They even offer a zero cost index fund FZROX. These funds also offer dividends in which you can reinvest or cash out.
