^ Your choices were something like this.

Great on a hot summer day, like today.

Definitely older than me. Don't ever remember any deliveries from a horse and cart.

I think I will get off your lawn.

As a kid, I delivered newspapers. Sundays were tough. Had fun though!

I had baskets for the sides of my rear wheel to hold the papers.

Never delivered papers but stood in front of a supermarket and sold them in the afternoon after school.

We used to have a butcher come by once every couple of weeks in his old International pick-up. He always had sides or quarters of meat hanging in the back (refrigerated with a huge block of ice ) that he would cut your choice from. Beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, bacon, eggs, he had it all. He even had some horse meat every once in a while.

He had an old I-beam scale hanging in the corner to weigh your purchase.

Yep, we had one. Clunky old Chevy truck with a very distotrted music box.
The driver had disgustingly long, dirty fingernails. Still, we bought the goodies.

You are old if you watched this when you were a kid. I remember getting tears in my eyes when I heard that ending music and Lassie put her paw up.

How about the saw dust on the floor at the butchers?

I worked in a butcher shop for a while when I was a kid. I always got stuck cleaning the sawdust out of the huge pickle barrel. The little brats loved to throw sawdust from the floor into it.

I tried selling the evening newspaper at a corner market downtown. I was
lucky if I made 6 cents a day. I eventually lucked out and landed a regular
paper route not far from the market. Six mile round trip, rain or shine, six
days a week. Keeping my bicycle in good repair put a dent in my meager
profits. Still, I consider the paper route an invaluable experience.

I made a good amount daily. It was the late edition and I was catching everybody on their way home from work.

I delivered the after hours edition for a couple of years. Pretty decent money. Gave me enough to spend as a kid and save to blow on car when I got a little older.

Yep, and that’s a good use for them. Free book covers instead of those ones they sold at the student store.
