Ajwain rice

A new (south) Indian item in my repertoire.

Amazing ajwain (carom seed) flavor, supported by curry leaves and mustard seeds. Recipe from Sangeeta's Kitchen on YouTube. veg and gf

Notable for their presence:
- ajwain seeds
- mustard seeds
- curry leaves

Notable for their absence (compared to my usual Indian items):
- cardamom
- cinnamon
- cumin
- cloves
- tomatoes
- ginger
- cilantro/coriander

Ingredients common with other things I have made:
- turmeric
- garlic
- red chile
- green chile
- ghee
- onions
- Basmati rice

Well I’m alone this week so just trying to survive

There’s a new pierogi place down the street from the house that opened up recently. They sell fresh pierogi you can make at home. Picked me up a couple packs since that’s about all I can cook. Pan fried in some butter, topped with some parm… beautiful!

Drove past QuickChek (regional convenience store like Wawa/Scheetz/Royal Farms) on my way home from a morning doctor appointment, and stopped to pick up lunch.

This month's limited-time signature sub is called The Champ, which is roast beef, turkey, ham, Swiss cheese, cole slaw, and Russian dressing piled on a rye sub roll. With 5,028 mg of sodium (more than twice the recommended DAILY intake) for the foot-long variety, I should have made a U-turn and gone back to the doctor's office!

I went with the 6" version. It looks like NJ's answer to the Rochester "garbage plate," but piled onto a fresh-baked and yummy rye submarine roll. The only thing missing was pork roll (Taylor ham for those in Camden):
