I just traded a mint Z-serial Pepsi GMT 16710 and a Sub 14060M (plus cash) for a 1972 1680 Red Sub.
I've always wanted a red sub and now I finally have it. It came on a new bracelet, but that's the usual replacement from Rolex. I like to wear this style on a NATO strap anyway.
VERY excited!!!

Talking about people without money? Did someone call me?

Was at a watch store recently and overheard a woman say, "I want both of them! How much is it going to cost me per month?"

30 month financing will get you into a pretty nice watch without very large payments.

You need to put the tophat crystal back which makes the 1680 so unique.
Leave the Superdome for my SD instead hehe.

It's beginning to feel like I'm walking into a Porsche dealer. "Hi there. Whatever you want to buy, we don't have it and you'll have to wait 9 months."

This is either a 1665 (great white) or 16660 Sea Dweller (triple six).

A 1680 is a Submariner (I have a red 1680 Sub).

I've got my eye on a double red SD ATM

In what respect - legitimacy?

It looks like a Submariner Date 16610, but beyond that, there's no way to tell if that's a real Rolex or not based on that photo.

Care to give us a bit more information?

To my understand it is a 16610 Black DLC like you said, but it was a gift and is my first Rolex so wasn't sure how to 100% verify/check its authenticity

Ah, got it.

You could take it to a Rolex AD and they should be able to open it up and check the movement along with removal of the band to check the serial number a series number.
However, they won't be able to contact Rolex to check the legitimacy. The only way you can do that is if you send it to Rolex for service. Then it will be checked to see if it's legitimate and if it's stolen. If either of those cases are true, you'll never see your watch again.

It's weird, it's the only way to verify a Rolex. It seems like they could charge you a fee to verify your watch prior to purchase.

I had a 2 tone GMT master brand new, date is 1985. I took it to a rolex dealer who promptly said this looks fake, and would need a service/$700 to check.

I went on amazon, bought a nice kit, went on some rolex forums, they show you what to look for as far as authentic movements. I opened it and confirmed its legit, went to another AD and sold it for $8K
