It is not uncommon to be given improper information by the informant(s) or victim(s) who call for assistance. Those officers were responding to a domestic violence call - the call type most likely to result in the death of an officer - and that was the impetus for their mental state. ANYBODY answering the door armed with a handgun risks being shot by officers.

Who answeres the door with a gun? I live in da hood, don’t lock my doors even when on vacation, and I don’t answer the door with my 12/pistol grip

I DID threaten that one sheriff with my rose pruning shears though …

If I had a knock on the door and didn't know who was outside I might have a gun in my hand. But I'm also not opening the door until I know who it is for certain. And no one will see my gun unless I felt it needed to dissuade some bad person with bad intent. I have both cameras and a window I can see through the door. The door isn't opened if I don't know the situation is OK. In this case once I'm sure it's cops I put the gun away FIRST and then open the door. The cops would never have seen the gun.

Very sad for him. BTW I live in a very safe place. I'm just security conscious. Bad things happen even in safe areas.

The cops on scene had already identified themselves multiple times. The decedent asked for this.

Hebbe said a slow-motion analysis of the body camera footage shows Robert Dotson opening the door with his left hand and holding a gun in his right hand. He said Dotson then held the weapon in both hands and pointed it at officers before he was shot.
Hmmmm.... Why would he do this? Did he not know they were police? Had he had previous bad experiences? Were there criminals going around impersonating police? What time of night/morning was it?

We lost one, and on his birthday. County Sherriff and military veteran. I know I've come across him on duty as we have served in the same units, but did not know him.

Shit can even go wrong in small town MN.

Oh how the tide turns. Vilify and demonize, then ask for them to come back. San Francisco is doing the same thing; upset at the lack of cops after they pushed so hard to defund and pushed the rhetoric of wanting less cops on San Francisco streets. I hope many have found employment elsewhere and SDPD reaps what they’ve sowed.

Minneapolis did the same. I know a lot of officers that have been asked to transfer to MPLS and they straight refuse.

Damn Clown Posse!

I think most of us knew it would only be a matter of time. Defund the police! Let Social Workers handle the situation! It was just so laughable on so many levels!

These clowns dug the hole. Instead of putting the shovel down, they kept digging and now they want somebody else to fill the dirt back in for them.

It won't work as intended. Last year the LAPD started offering apartments for applicants who successfully completed the hiring process; the rent would be covered for 12 months. That marketing campaign didn't really work as intended. LAPD is still down over a thousand officers.

You not interested in a new Skid Row apartment with a signing bonus?

The fact the cop killer also died isn't enough. It wasn't a fair trade. RIP officer.

Just saw this. I hope you don't think I was in any way excusing the guy? Yes, he screwed up. And it cost him his life.

Problem is when they find mental health needs people they aren't allowed to take them in and help them. Many of the "street people" and homeless are mentally ill from drug use and unable to think clearly. It's going to take an entirely new mentality by government to end this homeless mess in SF and other big cities.

Meanwhile people without mental health issues have to live around the mumbling zombies who might turn violent at a moments notice.

I think in the moment it’s a consideration. It is a possible indication that you may not be anti-law enforcement. Could it help? It’s possible…..but your attitude will be the primary factor.

Should I brandish my "LAPD Air Support Division" ballcap on the rear deck of my car? I used to talk to those guys daily.
