I don't care how fast either one of these cars are, the race looks so damn boring with an auto.

The 10 speed auto in the Stang might be great for drag racing, but that tranny a disaster during normal driving. Same goes for the 9 speed in the Z. Terrible.

There are plenty of us that feel that way about any automatic. But we're certainly in the minority. I'm still voting with my wallet, I'll never buy an automatic.

Isn't the Mustang 10-speed automatic the same used with Camaro and other GM cars. I have heard nothing but good about it from Camaro owners.

The shifts are very slow. I also have NFI why it needs 10 gears, 6 is plenty with 6 an overdrive, it's 5 litre V8 ffs. I have a 997 PDK and once warm (it's clunky when cold) the downshifts in particular are faster than the 10 speed in the stang.

Just because it has the "same" transmission doesn't mean it works the same. I've had 8spd ZFs in Chryslers that were absolutely horrible...nothing like BMW. Comes down to the specific tuning.

Me neither, but it took a good 2-3 years before I started seeing Supras.

I rarely see G80/G82 cars even now.

Thank God.

I like how the Nismo test mule is all camo'd - but from what is visible, it looks just like the base car, so I don't know how much they're actually hiding under there. And yeah, where are the current ones? I've yet to see a single one on the road.

There was a stop sale on both the auto and manual. Auto had a fault parking pawl and manual had 2nd gear grinding that carried over from the 370z.

The 2nd gear grind is a design feature of the 6-speed manual transmission that dates back to the 370Z. The Throttle House guys started 1-3 shifting on their test car to avoid grinding. Given the tepid reviews, Nissan is probably doing the right thing here as I don't think this car can handle more bad press.

My 350z even had it. I could outspeed 2nd all the time. I wasn't even shifting that fast.

What do you mean too small for a Z? It's the exact time size as the 350z and 370z.

Just traded in my ZL1 with a 10 speed. It’s a great transmission but it is no PDK/DCT obviously. It’s no fun to use the paddles as there are too many gears and shifts are quite a bit more delayed in my opinion, especially on the downshifts. Plus it just feels a bit clunkier in auto mode when getting on it. To be expected in a more budget minded car though. For what they did with it though, the SS and ZL1 Camaros are the best bang for your buck performance cars available today IMO. Too bad they won’t live on to see GM’s DCT put in it.

We have a brand new Pathfinder with the new 9 speed transmission and it is adequate for that. I know it will be retuned for the Z and no I haven’t driven one, but I’m guessing it won’t be a ton different and would get the manual for that car. Then a bunch of suspension upgrades to tighten that thing up.

Yes and no, we had a 3rd gen Cayenne S with the ZF box, it was a technically amazing transmission and extremely smooth. They just don’t have that fun/wow factor that DCT/PDKs bring IMO. This is a common complaint about the G80/82s. Great transmission, just a bit blah though comparatively speaking.
