Yep, and those who can't afford to pay the fees ultimately lose the vehicle(s). Those vehicles end up at police impound auctions or part of our undercover fleet.

Should be more. I vote for special impound fees for 'street takeover' participants: $300 per day.

I worked with Ron a few times over the years, this guy is a legend. Last of a dying breed, old school but well loved by those who work with him. 23 Division Superintendent Ron Taverner has completed an incredible 51 years of service with the Toronto Police Service. He is still going strong and I am sure we will never see another like him.

By the time I arrived there were three BMW's parked along the west curb line. They were doing a photo shoot. I didn't catch anybody racing.

I did end up with another DUI arrest last night though. The driver was passed out in the middle of the street in the #2 eastbound lane.

It sounds to me like some over zealous citizen called in to falsely report a drag race line up from people standing in taking pictures by the curb.

On this particular industrial street in my patrol area, it is a problem area for drag racing. It's the same street with the prepped surface I posted a photo of a few weeks ago. It's a non-residential business/industrial area and it's the truckers who call in the racers. It's not a street you'd frequent unless you are a street racer/takeover participant (…and it's certainly not a photo shoot worthy location). The entire surface area is full of acceleration and yaw skid marks from drag racing and donuts. The culprits were just done doing their thing before I arrived (….maybe not the three BMW drivers I contacted, per se, but whoever else was there).
