I need to get out more, only been taking HS pictures. Off to Monterey for the weekend, hoping for a sunset and some otters.

Take lots of shots and try to think of new perspectives with different focal lengths. Looking forward to pics.

She may get perturbed if I shoot too much. It is the 25th weekend getaway so I assume I'm supposed to pay attention to her.
Sunset, coast pines and otters are my only goal. Now if I get the green flash over the coast of Monterey, I'll be really happy. My landscape lens collection sucks, trying to figure out either a 70-200 or 24-70/16-35 to get as the next one.

I love my 24-105; however, you must use some sort of digital lens optimization to get the most out of it. Mine is soft at times, without DLO I'm thinking hard about the 11-24mm. it's mega-bucks, but looks great. I'll borrow one from CPS, along with the 14mm f/2.8 to compare, late this year. I'll buy the winner in early 2016, assume some bonus money to fund such an expensive purchase. (Still getting over the EF 500mm f/4L IS II purchase. ;-) Dave

I doubt books would work with mine, unless they were scientific ones.
Mark, even though the IQ is good with the new F4 lens I'd have to go for the 2.8 for my HS stuff I do. Low light and no flash. I end up ~800-2000 ISO 1/125 with my 300/4 all the time and it kills me. I keep promising to get the 300/2.8 to replace it.

Like others have said, as well as yourself, the 24-105 is a superb walkaround lens, especially on my 5DIII. My 16- 35 f/2.8 II is my 'skycatcher' lens, as I love big, big skies, both by day and especially by night. Wouldn't be without either of them.

Alan,
That would be High School/ Secondary or right before you enter University. I take thousands of pictures for the Band, Orchestra and Choir as a donation for the school district. (It also makes me a better photographer ;-))

I went out today with the Grand Prairie Butterfly Club using just my SL1 and 55-250mm STM. It was quite hot and humid and I wanted to travel light. I got some decent shots, but the IQ just can't match the 5D MkIII and my L lenses. Not that I would expect that from a sub-$400 rig. Still, they don't look too bad overall.
