I did the Angel Tree at work (pick a kid's card with there age/size and a few gift suggestions).
I bought him some sports stuff, a ton of Hotwheels and other cars/trucks. Along with a bunch of clothes. I was a lot a fun to pick out fun looking toys for him. |

No, you're good. I think it was a great idea for a thread.

In my personal experience, we get a bad rap from people as being "douchebags" who don't use our blinkers. This confirms my suspicions that we aren't.

I will have you know, I blink every single move. Three clicks. It's hardwired, I don't even have to think about it. I will let someone from oncoming traffic make their left in front of me. I move over to let people merge. I pick and choose who I let in front of me on the highway. You can usually tell if they are going to get in front of you just to hold you up. I am a courteous yet aggressive driver.

Santa to the Sea. I took a bag of toys, AND got my 2 sons to participate. They took their own bag of toys.

I give a lot of blood.
We are also trying to make sure our local pizza shop will stay in business, along with a few other take-out restaurants. My last BMW went to Habitat for Humanity. We just gave a perfect OLED tv to a nursing home so I could get one 10" bigger. The food pantry my wife volunteers at got a holiday check. Toys for tots, too. The newspaper delivery guy got a much larger tip this year, because.... I have a bit of a weakness for women who beg on the street. My super should get nothing this year. Aside from money, listen to people, & talk with them. Many of the young pups out there could probably use some sage advice from an old dog like me (us?). We can all do something; it's not hard. Here's a holiday one for all y'all. My employer of the last 35 years holds an annual employee Christmas banquet party (except this year because COVID). Every year, they hold a 50/50 raffle as part of the party, with the proceeds going to one of many worthy local charities. For years even before I started working there, the tradition was for whoever won the 50/50 to donate their winnings to the charity as well.
Around 1995, one of the overnight custodial staff members won the 50/50...and chose to keep the winning 50% instead of donating it. Nobody questioned her decision, or need for the money. Unfortunately, it ended the tradition for over 10 years, as staff turned over and all but forgot about it. Fast-forward to 2012. I was sitting next to a director from another department at the banquet when the 50/50 sales team came by. I bought my usual $40 of tickets. She bought $20, saying that she could use the winnings for holiday stuff. I had mentioned the tradition (that pre-dated her employment), and said that someone of the director's level was certainly in the financial position to give the winnings to the charity. She asked if I would *really* do that if I won? I told her that I would do it without question, to re-kindle the tradition. Long story short, Habitat for Humanity received an extra $532 donation that year when I won the 50/50. My acceptance speech was about how giving back was a tradition for years before I started working there, and that I was going to continue with the forgotten tradition. The next year, the VP Finance won, and donated the winnings back to keep the tradition going. The year after that, one of my IT colleagues won and likewise donated it back, followed by another high-level executive the next year. A whole new generation of employees are now aware of the tradition, and will hopefully keep carrying it on again for years to come.....

Someone I knew lost their job recently and I got them added as a last minute interview even though the original panel had closed out.

We gave our garbage men Christmas cards with gift cards this year. They really appreciated it.
Donated a bunch of toys to toys of tots. Usually when we see a homeless person on the side of the road, we hand them some money or give them food if we happen to have in the car. We donate money to the needy whenever we can. We're blessed to be where we are so we like to help the unfortunate when we can. Feels good to give back. |

On that whole driving thing: I was in a PACKED parking lot yesterday. But since my insurance decided to cover my prescription that they had TWICE written me was no longer on the formulary, and CVS called and confirmed, I let someone turn left in front of me to get to a parking spot at the same time someone cut in line in front of me with their right turn, and all I did was depress the clutch.
