No "pleasing yourself" and driving. We have distracted driving laws nowadays...

These are great, thanks for posting.

What drove the doubling of sales in 1970 vs. a few years earlier? There was also a corresponding increase in capital investment.

Did the BMW board make a grand decision to significantly increase sales, or was something else going on in the German/European/global economy at that time, which had the effect of pushing up BMW sales?

What's this Hoffman Motor's Corp? Is BMWNA the successor to this? Looks like they are the sole importer with an address in LA and one in NY.

Max Hoffman must be one of the most influential importers ever.
He understood US market very well and apparently made Merc do 300SL, BMW do 507 and Porsche do 356 Speedster.
He was an importer of BMW, Mercedes, Alfas, Jags and Porsches.

This thread is seriously great.

If one places their mind in that timeframe, you can imagine the thrill of driving and the joy of ownership of a timeless BMW.

The trip overseas must have been GREAT. Imagine traveling to West Germany for Euro Delivery during the depths of the Cold War.

Driving through the Alps...Italy, France, Austria, and West Germany to name a few. The experience of Western Europe during the 60s and 70s must have been wonderful.

This is one of the best threads in a while. I'd venture to say one my favorite threads.

Thanks for the classic thread, OP!

One of the adverts says BMW 2002 costs around $2850. According to Google, median household income was $7700 in 1969.

In 2019, median household income is $63,688 while BMW 330i costs $40,750.

$2850 in 1969 equals to $19,975 in 2019 Dollars. Not exactly a cheap car by 1969 pricing standards.

Likewise, $7700 average income in 1969 equal to $54000 in 2019 Dollars. Nothing has changed there...
