Found my F82 about 3 years ago on Autotrader. I’m in Austin and the car was in Seattle. Had it checked by an independent and as part of the deal, they included shipping. Fortunately bought about 5 months before Covid hit so I got a great price on my perfect spec with about 12,000 miles. Best part was that it had M Performance Exhaust (not included in price) + full PPF (didn’t know until the car arrived). Very nice surprise!

Down under we call it " Race Car in Sheds" These are typically projects that sit in garages and slowly get completed.
This one was from trademe.co.nz Basically it's a collect of parts I've brought on that site. |

Bought my 328i from someone on Craigslist, as well as my GTI prior to that.

Latest: we bought our 1 year old 2019 X5 from CarMax. Before that, I found my 128i on Craigslist.... all the way across the country. And we found our X1 on CarGurus, IIRC - advertised by a local dealer.

I am an equal opportunist and shop wherever the best find is. Most recent purchases have been 2 from the BMWCCA Classifieds, 1 from Craigslist and 1 from the forums here (not actively posted for sale, WTB ad)

Car required a bunch of aesthetic fixes to meet their “as advertised” guarantee (I’m calling it that, not sure there’s an official term) Ended up with - new windshield, repainted wheels, new tires. Was time consuming but otherwise free to me and got the results I wanted. Also searched CarGurus, Cars.com, AutoTrader Only sunset Orange metallic m240 optioned the way I wanted it in the country at the time. |

What are ya'll seeing for fees in preowned vehicle transactions?
I have been having a nice correspondence via email with an SA over the past month. I started to asked about whether the prices are all-in. Silence. Several email exchanges go by and he is not answering if the prices listed on the dealer website are drive-away prices. My trust and confidence drops to the floor, from what had been an average level. He then says, "...and there are the normal fees." Slime. How is everyone handling this? Thanks for comments and feedback. |

Closing the loop, I took delivery on a preowned vehicle. I was surfing cargurus and the corporate brand site, and the vehicle appeared on and off at both sites - the listing was activated and deactivated on these sites several times. I then went directly to the selling dealer's website where it appeared consistently. I entered the listing details into my market price database and watched it over time.
Eventually I decided it was the right one, negotiated a price, and did the deal. Cash arrived via bank wire 2 hours after clicking the button. Sight unseen, 2,000 miles away from me. Transported by Montway Auto Transport. In summary, I used cargurus to get a nationwide landscape of price and availability. Then I used a corporate brand inventory search for the brand in question, then went to selling dealer's sites. First time for my buying a car long distance, and sight unseen. So far so good. |
