I think BMW basically got people to do beta testing of what a PHEV X5M and M5 would be like. I think they probably learned a lot from it too. Mainly that it needs to weigh less and have absurd amounts of power to counter that weight. |

The XM has always struck me as being in a weird spot in the market.
The standard XM is basically the price as a Cayenne Turbo e-Hybrid while being down 85 hp (XM: 644 hp, Cayenne Turbo: 738 hp). BMW is usually considered the value-for-money performance option compared to the equivalent Porsche, so it seems to be a miss on pricing here. The XM Label is at the same price as a G63 and getting pretty close to a Cayenne Turbo GT, depending on whether you want the iconic shape of the G-Wagen or the outright track performance in the Cayenne, so it would be a hard sell at this price point as well. I bet they would have sold more if they gave the standard XM the Label engine with 738 hp, and made a 850 hp monster for the top end XM Label. Also, they should have put the interior of the new 7 series in with the full adjustable rear seats, theater screen, self closing doors and everything else for a wow factor. |

the xm wouldbhave been an ok vehicle IF... it was priced at 110-120... never had an M badge next to it.. and had slightly more conservative styling and focused more on luxury
instead we somehow ended up with a luxury M electrified suv at 150k... one that is no more luxurious than an x7, is slower than a cheaper x5m and sits in no mans land of pricing... it was kind of easy to predict this... in fact i'd be asking bmw m who approved a bespoke m vehicle to be an electric suv lol

- For it's size and weight, I really wish it had 3 rows, like the X7. - BMW has no SUV's with the rear-seat amenities of the 7 series. The XM was a missed opportunity here IMHO. No rear massaging seats, etc. Not just the Urus and Bentagya, but even low trim Cayennes can option this. - It seems silly that it doesn't have B&W standard. At its price point it honestly is a bit silly that it doesn't have everything possible standard. - The base trim probably shouldn't exist and they should've just released the Label. - Even the label is completely outgunned performance-wise by the Turbo GT & Urus. Straight line, track, everything. One would expect better from the flagship M. It's an interesting package. It has presence. I can appreciate it being a great experience to drive and ride in. But it's appeal and price tag make it very niche.

Amazing that the XM lasted less than 3 years from the November 2021 concept reveal. Market release was April 2023, car was killed off less than a year on market. There will be no LCI for XM as BMW will cut their losses. BMW even thew in “free” individual colors and that still didn’t work to move metal. The 50th Anniversary of M bestoke will go down in history similar to the New Coke.

While acknowledging all drivers who like their XM vehicles, BMW isn’t in the business of selling vehicles that don’t sell.
The market is sending a message to BMW product planners. Let’s collectively hope they are listening. |

I used to have F13 M6 and currently drive F92 M8.
I believe both of them are the most beautiful BMW ever made; however I prefer the look of M8 and the interior of M6 ☺️

They are a flop. Successful selling vehicles don't have $17,500 lease incentives. In addition to most dealers giving 10%+ off msrp.

I have have been driving an XM for a year as my daily, 26,000 miles on the clock, 3 sets of tires and it’s an amazing car.
I also have an X3MC, the XM is a special car, comfortable and fast. I have driven it from LA to SF 6 times and it’s very comfortable. The same drive in my X3MC is a bit different |
