Interesting comments.

I don't feel diminished or inferior because of someone else's accomplishments. But do I admire them? Sure! Good for them!

This is a much more rational reaction than I have!

Here I am at this same race 3 years ago (the last time it went ahead, due to flooding and covid):
https://www.rootsandrain.com/photos/3106875/rider/40268
Note the unpainted steel frame...I finished it at 3am the night before I had to leave. Assembled the bike in the event campsite

Anyhow! Back on topic...

Very nice! I think that looks good unpainted. Here’s my old Mountain Cycle, which I still have. I’ll never sell it.

When I watch the Olympics I feel inspiration and joy from seeing athletes achieve their goals after years of hard work and dedication. I feel no envy at all, just inspiration to do my best at whatever I'm doing.
I enjoy the spectacle of humans in their physical prime pushing themselves to the limit.

What I don't like is some of the lame sports they have which I feel downgrade the prestige of the Olympics - synchronized diving/swimming, golf, tennis, skateboarding, etc.
And I especially detest those athletes who disrespect their country whicle supposedly representing them.

Oh hell yes! What a machine!

Steel frames do look good raw for about 1h of riding in UK weather...rust sets in FAST! It's now chrome effect powder coat with a slight sparkly clear coat over the top.

Some pretty big and well established sports there... Curious as to which sports you feel best represent the Olympics, and why these don't?

Gable Steveson Last second win for the gold had me all teared up! That was amazing! And, the back flip at 170 pounds was amazing. He should’ve won a gold medal just for that.

I'll bet a lot of viewers have Olympic sports that they don't think should be included. For me, it's archery and shooting. I understand that there is a lot of skill required, but they just stand there.

I actually like that artistic swimming (synchronized) is in the Olympics. These young ladies are in the pool 6 to 8 hours per day, 6 days a week, all year around. They can hold their breath for 3 full minutes. The athleticism, skill, and discipline to do this sport is off the charts.

If you know anything about shooting, the skill, dedication and practice time that is required is amazing. It’s an old world skill and it should definitely be in The Olympics.

I'm sure everything you say is true. I actually like the Winter Olympic Sport where they cross country ski and the stop and shoot.

There are other highly disciplined, skilled JST (just stand there) sports such as Championship-level darts and axe throwing. Should they be included too? I don't think you could get any two people to agree on the correct list of Olympic sports so its no surprise at all that there are different opinions here on this thread.

I'm surprised skateboarding is an Olympic event now.

Everything is a sport now. They were playing the olympics at some brewery we went to and it was some chicks in a pool playing what I can only describe as soccer but with their hands (if they used their feet I would have been impressed).

It's almost same here as the op . I prefer watching LMP Racing Cars or a proper football game over olympics

The only sports I don't think should be part of it are the equestrian ones. I get the skill etc, but I think in order for it to be fair for the competitors they should all have to ride the same horse...which plainly isn't going to work.
