This is really tough, and I've been thinking about it since first posted. Like others have said, it may change tomorrow because there is a heck of a lot of good music out there... The melody of each of these is top notch. IMO:
The best engineered song of all time. The song that really introduced me to heavy guitar rock and roll. There have been others since, but this will always be first. This version of this song. Tommy always a mind blower. Not his song, but I think he does it better than anybody. The mashup is awesome and just works so well. Beautiful song for sure, but what gets me is he wrote it when he was 12 years old. That's just nuts. |

I just spent an hour or more re-listening to many of these -- wonderful!
I wish we could get more contributions.

No "Good Vibrations"? How about The Girl From Ipanema"? "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" (the whole album is pretty much one continuous song; much like Dark Side of the Moon).
Speaking of Dark Side, anyone watch The Wizard of OZ whilst listening to dark Side? PF swears there is no relation, but the synchronization is uncanny. |

Great choices, Lady Jane, and thank you. One of my great regrets is that as a music lover, I can't play any instrument. If only...
And you are welcome to go for fifteen if you wish.

Smooth Operator - Sade
Kid Charlemagne - Steely Dan Out Of Touch - Hall & Oates Rise - Herb Alpert Lowdown - Boz Scaggs Favorite Sirius stations are 80s on 8, 1st Wave and Yacht Rock. Honestly, my 335i doesn't have Sirius, it just has 'satellite radio prep.' Kinda hesitant about buying the code and turning it on because the tuner in my car is old enough that it doesn't go up to the 300s, which means I can't get Yacht Rock. I'll just live with terrestrial radio, CDs and an aux port if I can't get Yacht Rock. That might end up being the major catalyst for me trying to retrofit NBT into my car. Yacht Rock mainly, plus navigation. |

Great thread. I enjoyed listening to the selections and discovered some new pieces. In particular, I loved On the Nature of Daylight that I had not listened to earlier.
It is hard to select top 5 but here are some that come to mind that have not been mentioned in the thread before. |

Today I had a 3 hr drive and had sat radio playing (Willie’s Roadhouse), and heard a version of Mona Lisa I had never heard before. I kind of hope to never hear it again. Anyway, it got me thinking how similar that song’s sentiment is to Girl from Ipanema and Pretty Woman. Musically quite different, yet the same theme. Here they are:

Although I'm not a fan of head banging music, especially with vulgar lyrics, I like to spin some of my dad's old LPs. I like Huriah Heep. I have the original album.

I've seen him live 3 times, always blows me away. Please watch this clip for more of his virtuosity, and if his rendition of Amazing Grace don't give you the feels, you're dead: And here is one more, Tommy with "his band" playing another favorite of mine: 9 Pound Hammer Last edited by BMWGUYinCO; 03-17-2023 at 05:59 PM.. |
