This is amazing news. Sadly, the first thing I thought was, who will make the movie first?!

More details emerge of the perilous rescue...

Unfortunately for me, I am extremely claustrophobic. Add to that being underwater and dark... |

^The images I saw this morning, kids were strapped to a litter, wrapped so they couldn't move, and THEN hauled out. They weren't dangling/swimming behind the front diver.

News said there was one pinch point that was only 15 inches wide. I doubt the body board/litter scenario is correct. They would also have to provide buoyancy for the litter so the divers wouldn't have to carry it the two miles (much of it under water)... I think the kids were placed on litters and rushed to helicopters/ambulances to avoid the media frenzy.

Did spring diving years ago. Mostly natural springs in Florida but going through small openings etc. down to the source but nothing compared to this. It was under ground but most were relatively shallow (less than 100 feet usually)... Certainly not for those who are claustrophobic though where I dove was wide open compared to spots in this cave!

Yeah...but nothing in tight, merky water, with extreme high currents like this. Underwater recreation diving in caves are spectactular. I doubt that's how they described their experience...

Here in Germany we have a disused furnace into the Ruhrgebiet and its meanwhile converted to an incredible "indoor" diving area, which is save for experienced divers and you could book kinda guided tours through this big piece of technology. Makes a lot of fun if you like such stuff.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/thai-boys...133024230.html Again... Whatever it took to get them out safely! If you think about it, these kids were frail, in shock, and the journey was dangerous AF! putting them nearly asleep was a great idea. They would have surely panicked, possibly hyper ventilated and endangered themselves and the rescuers! |

I am a solid swimmer and have been since a child. But admittedly, I would be SOL in a similar situation anywhere close to this. But then again, I would NEVER place myself anywhere close to a underwater cave. I have major props to all human beings who have little to no fear of extreme heights or deep underwater divers.

These guys weren't really "swimming" when they did the rescue. This was more underwater hiking/rock climbing.
I would LOVE to go into a cenote that didn't require SCUBA. I tried to learn, but then had surgery on my ear and now I can't go deeper than I could hold my breath anyways, so didn't waste money on certs. |
