No worry. My bad for not doing what I normally do, that is, double-check information. All is good.

My favourite time to drive is very late at night in the winter, no street lights, snow banks and the road white with salt. A clear sky and a full moon is a bonus. I just get into the zone and go... fast. I love it.

I've never been to Belgium although I hope to get to Spa-Francorchamps for a few laps later this summer. I'll be at the Nurburgring for some laps and Spa is only about 90km (50 miles) away so it's definitely doable.

Good food and beer??? I'm in!
I love exploring old churches and cathedrals. The amount of skill and craftsmanship invested in them is incredible. You just don't see that kind of work anymore, at least not on that scale.

I can't get to Europe in a reasonable time any more since the Concorde was taken out of service. I hate flying in regular commercial airplanes, and trans-Atlantic ships take waaaaaay too long to make the crossing.

An airline from Iceland recently started up service from our local airport, with connections to many places in Europe via Iceland. I might consider that at some point in the future, since there's a stop mid-crossing and it's crazy convenient with the airport terminal being only 5 minutes from our home.....

I've used Icelandair and I think it's a great way to go:

Priced right
Breaks up the trip
You can stay in Iceland for up to 7 days on your way or way back without an increase in fare (I don't know if they still do that)
Service is good.

Our flight was delayed coming back to the US from Paris and didn't get to Reykjavik in time for the connection. Icelandair took great care of us (transportation, meals, hotel) all top notch.

I'd use them again in a heartbeat if I can't get a nonstop to my destination.

Of course, your other option is First Class and a few drinks.

I just looked, figuring that it would be 4.5 hours. It is actually around 6 hours, and probably better to just slog on for two more hours and fly directly to Europe.

I don't drink, and flying first class is out of my price range these days.....

Actually, it does almost pay for me to route to Europe through Iceland from here. The airport terminal is only 5 minutes away from home, and TSA check-in is done in seconds. If I had to go to one of the big NYC airports, the drive or train ride would be two hours plus a long line to check in and get through TSA. Tack those four hours onto the direct flight time, plus the hassle of getting to/from the big airports.....

If you do use Icelandair, please consider staying in Iceland on the way to/from Europe. It is an amazing place. Check out some travel videos.
