Yeah it was something like two hours of traffic on the highways, luckily I didn't have to be there today and just putted around the burbs

that's not too bad then, we started out at about -10 this morning, and i was taking some pictures of where i keep my boat and the ice around the area (fresh water lake) I couldn't stay out too long due to the windchill.... it sucked.

So, I guess that also makes me jealous of your location and picturesque waterfront.
I use celcius in the states, and I was complaining about the cold 14 degree weather today

Gary isn't telling us, but he bought a manual shift and doesn't actually know how to drive it.

related series...usually i wouldn't post more than one, but i feel like it's necessary here.
did some exploring today, there's a HUGE abandoned Naval Radio Transmitting Facility across the street from my friend's house. it's probably 3-4 square miles of space, and really fascinating. went back there for the first time today. it was about a 30 minute walk through pretty thick woods and over some creeks to get in, but it was well worth it. we'll be going back, for sure.

this is just one building, all we had time to see.

Just playing with the new 400 5.6 today and got this little guy who posed for me. I like the light and the jpeg straight out of the camera was pretty good I think. THis was handheld as well. He is not an amazingly colorfull bird but this little guy visits daily. I am pretty sure it is the same bird, he goes to the same spots all the time.

This is about a 70% crop from the full image. Love this 135. Shame it has to go back in a few days.

more info on that place i explored yesterday.

Quote:
In 1993, the Naval Radio Transmitting Facility, Driver, VA, was designated for closure pursuant to the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990, Public Law 101-510, as amended. Operational closure occured in March 1994. NAVFACENGCOM took ownership on 17 November 1994. The reuse plan was approved by HUD on 23 September 1996. The approved reuse plan allocates approximately 208 acres to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service; 239 acres to the Department of Interior, National Park Service, for a public benefit conveyance to the City of Suffolk; and 150 acres to the Department of Education for public benefit conveyances. Final disposal was by August 1999. The Coast Guard has replaced DGPS Broadcast site Cape Henry, VA with DGPS Broadcast site Driver, VA. The relocation was completed June 19, 1999. Driver, VA retains the same frequency and reference station identification numbers formerly assigned to Cape Henry, VA.

our entry point is circled, and the small structure is the only thing we had time to explore. getting out was easier cause it was dark and all the city workers had gone home. just so you get an idea of size, the section of Kings Hwy. from Windy RIver Farm to Sleepy Hole Road (County Road 629) is 1.3 miles.

A shot I captured today during a dance recital. The shadow cast by the dancer in the spotlight appears to be doing the splits on the floor, while the dancer was in mid-air.

neat shot, especially because it looks like the shadow is on the ground doing the same routine but on the ground.
