That sucks. I thought granite was hard to damage. You know what's going to happen once you open the replace the granite door, right? Well, we might as well do X being we're already doing Y. It doesn't stop. Good luck.

As I understand it, back when we had this granite installed in 2002, installers used metal rods to support some sections (for example around sink cut outs). Those start to rust after a while and that creates a crack in the granite. Once there is a crack and some water gets in, it’s a free for all. I also understand this is not uncommon, especially on 2cm thick granite, and the industry no longer uses those metal roads. We’ve had it repaired twice and it looked good for a week before getting worse both times. We also want a new sink but can’t because granite is too fragile around the sink right now.

So our options are to replace the entire section of counter (to make sure the section matches, but may not entirely match the rest of the counters because different slab) and the sink for $2K - $3K or all the counters, sink and backsplash (since we would install 3cm counters now) for $6K - $7K+. But spending $6K - $7K now means we’d probably never do the cabinets unless we got custom cabinets that enabled us to re-use the counters. We looked into refinishing cabinets and not really worth the money vs. getting new and getting new cabinets is $20k+. I kinda gravitate towards the $2K - $3K option, while my wife wants to redo the kitchen, salvaging only appliances. So stalemate. I filled the visible crack with silicone to buy more time (before I eventually give in I guess).

It's a rabbit hole. Do you really need new cabinets? If you replace all the counters, sink and backsplash with something different, it will be LIKE a new kitchen. But then again, a happy wife = happy life. Tough call.

Definitely do not need new cabinets to me. I see it the way you said in your post. They are not broken / falling apart and I am not convinced we will see a return on an investment in new cabinets. They are (I guess) builder grade particle board, with all wood doors and drawers. However, they are yellow-ish oak (a little of which could use a refinish) my wife has not really liked since we bought the house 18 years ago. We could also use more functional drawers and more storage but don’t need it. I’d rather let the next owners pick exactly what the want and leave me out of it.

We went through the same problem when we renovated the house we bought. As we got into it, $$ kept adding up. We intended to replace the cabinets and by the time we got the granite, new backsplash, & added an island the white cabinets didn't look so bad. We just decided to put the $20k somewhere else. Ours were not that bad it wasn't what we would have picked out. Our taste is more on the modern end. Once you start, it's hard to stop the bleeding.

I actually live in Metairie but work all over the city. This is my new ride. I drive a beater for work most of the time but I'm uptown a good bit though.

The Pride Mountain is a special occasion wine for us, and is absolutely scrumptious. Run it through a strainer. And who doesn't like Stag's Leap?

Others that I enjoy are Educated Guess, Daou, Donati Family Vineyards, and Alexander Valley.
Pride is just great. I have a Reserve Cabernet and a couple of their Viogners that are just great.

Depends. They have like 2 dozen single vineyard Pinots. Ranges from maybe '60s to low '100's if I remember correctly. I've been on their club list for years, but it's been a while since I've purchased.

Here's a new one

The guy in the liquor store gave me this bottle for free to try. I actually enjoyed it. Anyone ever hear of this one before?

Went to a pre-Apocalypse dinner with some friends a few weeks back and they brought a bottle of Barnett Rattlesnake Cabernet (2016). It was really excellent, better than the bottle of The Bard (2015) I brought. I went to buy some and found it to be really pricey but one worth the price so I picked up a bottle of 2017. This is actually a great way to try wines - everyone brings a bottle to dinner.

Saturday night in with the wife. Italian take out and some wine.

Really liked this bottle and will be picking up a case.

Don’t know why this posted sideways ? Any ideas on how to fix or rotate.

So my wife does like the wine, whisk(e)y and gin too...anyway she's about to retire and has been working towards becoming a sommelier so we are always trying new wine (we live in wine country)....just opened this $14.95 CDN, so about $10 USD. Very nice, smooth, a bit of spice, fruity with strawberry notes.....

This is mainly for the South Floridians...check out Cooper’s Hawk. They’re a winery and restaurant in Cooper City, and they said they have one in Pembroke Pines as well. The restaurant is pretty good (but really busy so make a reservation), but you can walk in for a wine tasting and to pick up a few bottles.

The reds - merlot, cab and something they call “lux Cabernet Sauvignon” (the last one is my favorite) are very reasonably priced, pretty darn good, and available right in our backyard.

Also, i say “mainly for South Floridians” because i think they are in other states as well.

I’ve actually been to the one on PGA Blvd. but never tried the wine. I thought the food was ok but my wife hated it enough to continue to comment about it every time we drive by it many year later.

Uh oh, that’s a problem if the wife hates it. It would be difficult to convince her to give it a try.

We ate at the PGA Blvd restaurant once. Have to admit i don’t remember the entrees too well, but the ice cream sundae was great
