Reserved five seats for Oppenheimer on Sunday/30 Jul in the center of the screen, 2/3rds of the way back at the best IMAX in Denver (I looked up where Christopher Nolan said the best seating was). They had *just* opened up the reservations for the week, so I got lucky.

But IMAX tickets?

Spendy.

Very spendy. I go to the theater maybe 5 times a year, so I figure I should go for the best experience. Sunday mornings at 25% off also help.

The Flash.

Comic book Movies are among my absolute favorite. Ezra Miller was cast perfectly for this role and character. Too bad he's a pedo.

The film itself. I give a 3.5/5.

It's based on the much better Animated DC movies: Flash Paradox.

Having seen Oppenheimer on Thursday in XD, glad it was my BILIL paying for it. If you are expecting lots of big bangs and such, you will be disappointed. This is as much an intellectual movie as anything else.

I was amazed at hearing/seeing all the big names in science. Amazing discussion of science, but this doesn't need special effects. It's more about the man himself, and the mental games that went on.

I'm still amazed that we as humans can think up all these ideas, perform minor miracles of science, and yet have the kinds of petty bickering that we still do.

Thanks for that. My brother and his wife watched it yesterday and said they same. Maybe I’ll save a few bucks and watch it on a “regular” big screen.

There are some tix at Chinese theatre in Hollywood. They are more expensive than citywalk though. Not sure how good the seats are that are available but the venue is very nice. 70 mm imax

Who would think this though? Did ppl expect Dr Manhattan to make a special guest appearance or something? LOL.

I don't doubt the film's quality, but the subject seems very dry to me.

Which is why we would wait until you were at bingo to watch a second time

I have always been fascinated by both the science AND the human nature aspect of unleashing such power on the world. Would I still do it if I knew Kim discovered a new bomb? Would I tell you about my time machine? When I perfect the transporter, do I beam over to your house?

Having read American Prometheus a while back, the Trinity Test was so low-key in the book that if you blinked, you missed it. It was *much* more focused on Oppenheimer's life, his managing Los Alamos, and the resultant fallout (see what I did there?) following the war, the creation of the AEC, Oppenheimer's revocation of his security clearance (i.e. governmental blacklisting), etc.

The actual explosion gadget/bomb itself? Only worth a few pages in a really, *really* thick book.

Dang, that might be the help I needed. I just posted about lacking reading material in cmyx6go book thread. I'll have to research of copy of American Prometheus.

I hear ya.

I'm more basic, for example, I've been eyeing some condos and am just fascinated how we can just dig a hole in the ground and in a year or so some amazing building is erected. We have the capacity to create so many good things and yet many ppl are drawn to the destructive stuff.

Watched M. Night's "Knock at the Cabin" last night. I liked it. Dave Bautista is a surprisingly better actor than I thought he'd be. I know he's done other roles but it's the first time I saw him in anything. Would recommend this movie.

Ya, he's really a good actor. I actually haven't seen a bad performance by him. Check him out in the Blade Runner sequel.

Finally saw Oppenheimer last night.

If Hollywood has anything remotely resembling a spine, it damn well better *sweep* the Oscars. Outstanding acting (Murphy, Downey Jr. and Blunt knock it out of the park although I did think that Malik felt a bit mis-cast), sets, costuming, direction, etc.

The IMAX was amazing, but maybe (?) a little more hyped than it needed to be-- we went across town to the "best IMAX in town" and my wife said she liked the local one a little better.

It's a "Thinking person's" movie. It's LONG, so plan pre-movie bathroom break and snacks accordingly-- you won't want to leave the screen for a second.

Nolan's direction was spot-on as usual and he does continue his fascination with time. There are a lot of scene jumps flashing back and forth in time, but it all works out in the end (and the use of black and white for certain scenes works very well).

Basically? A movie for adults, and one that I'd highly, highly recommend-- especially if you're a fan of history. It's about building The Bomb, yes..... but also how the Government screwed over Oppenheimer when he became inconvenient to them with his trying to "put the genie back into the bottle" on an international level.

I went with a bunch of friends who aren't necessarily into this sort of movie (Barbie and "shoot 'em up's are more their speed) and they all really enjoyed it- so if you haven't seen it yet..... GO!
