Probably, this question has already been discussed several times in this thread, but I will ask.
Currently, after 5 years of owning shotguns, I can get a rifle license. Rifle me only necessary for hunting (rare - for the shooting range). The main game for such hunts is wild boar, moose, rarely - beaver, roe deer. I have already realized that it is more important for me to buy not a semi-automatic, but a bolt rifle.
The main dilemma is which caliber to choose. The most common in Russia are 308 Win and 30.06 Spr. What is typical caliber used for such purposes in US?

Either should work. 30-06 is more powerful if that matters. It also kicks harder

Both .308 and .30-06 are good hunitng cartridges for moose.

I am a little surprised that those cartridges are popular in Russian. I assumed that Russian or European cartridges would be most popular.

We're giving one away at the end of the month too: https://www.horizonarmsresearch.com/...ffle-giveaway/

Been seeing these upgrades - you say it was worth it? I have been very surprised by the trigger on my SAS. Not expecting it to be great I was surprised it was as good as it was. After a few mags running some small plate racks at 10-15 yards was no problem at all.

Really, Really like this gun and the fist one I have finally been able to literally carry every single day and not be bothered by it or feel ill equipt.

I might have to check that trigger out. How was the install?

Here is kicks harder do not like, besides 308win significantly quieter shot.

In the segment of militaristic weapons (like Kalashnikov, AK), Russian standard of cartridges is certainly more popular, but I do not need Kalashnikov (and everything that is based on it). If we talk specifically about hunting cartridges, then yes - 308win and 30.06spr are the most popular.
There is, of course, popular 9.3x62 (Mauser) caliber, but for most hunting it is overkill, although it is believed to be the ideal stopping caliber for moose.

Here in virginia most hunt with 12 gauge shotgun. That's mainly deer hunting. Sw portion of the state does boar hunting, but don't know what they use.

Got a new carry gun yesterday. Been looking for the G29 for a while now and finally found one. It's about the only cartridge I can reliably find in stock these days so that helped sway the decision.

7.5 inch barrel? What caliber?

Any of the usual gun action sites. Armslist.com, GunBroker.com, gunsamerica.com, etc.

Or post a note at your local range/club.

Or go to one of the many gun forums such as AR15.com.

You're in Maryland. I don't know your laws or if you are prohibited from selling gun parts as an individual. I think you can, but check to make sure.

If there aren't any state restrictions, then you are good to go.

That doesn't explain why "it's more important to not buy a semiautomatic." What's the downside to choosing a semiautomatic over a bolt rifle in your planned use?

I'm not trolling. I've never hunted and wonder why someone buying ONE rifle would choose something more specialized and delivering less versatility. There must be something you've learned about a semiautomatic that makes it important to NOT choose one for how you'll use it.

The flat base mag that comes with the P365 needed a pinky rest. NDZ makes a nice one that's Made In USA. While I was putting an order together, I added a stainless steel receiver pin (by the safety).
Stock pinky rest mag to the right for reference.

Hahaha. You are in New Jersey and somewhatly protected by the second amendment. HE is in Saint Petersburg RUSSIA and not covered by the second amendment. When you go to buy guns legally in Russia you don't walk in to the gun store and say "I want something I can overthrow the government with." He is authorized, after a five year wait, after not screwing the pooch with his shotgun ownership, to buy a hunting rifle and it is in his best interest to buy a bolt action and keep things low key.

Sadly, New Jersey is only barely protected by the 2A. Not as bad as NY and CA, but still pretty bad.

Bolt rifles are believed to be more accurate.

Even coming from north NJ where 200yds is long range, I respect the concept you mention. However I think if you're going to only have one rifle, then versatility should rule the decision. Admittedly, I don't know a damn thing about hunting. That's why I'm posing the question with reverence.
I think the particular situation that inspired my question is unique. I hadn't bothered to notice where the poster was located.
