Swapped optics to a Vortex Strikefire 2 and Vortex micro magnifier with quick release flip mount. Need to get it zeroed in and a few rounds down range.

Get a remington 870 for a shotgun. There’s plenty of good AR15s cant go wrong with an AK47 either or if youre more budgeted a SKS is a good option

Went with a pistol for now until the political climate changes or see what happens since they vow to ban "military style assault" weapons, whatever the fuck that actually means or stands for lol. |

1. Gun buying fever nationwide. Hard to find some guns right now. 2. Ammo buying fever, also. If you can find ammo, the price might be high. 3. You're in California. You'll have fewer options for guns and ammo and you'll pay higher prices for what you can get. 4. If you want to carry a concealed firearm, California makes it difficult to get the required permit. You said you want an AR15 type rifle, but California has severely restricted what you are allowed to buy. I don't know all of the laws there, but you won't be able to get an AR15 with all of the features and options that residents of other states can get. California also restricts handguns by requiring manufacturers to meet certain requirements. Not all manufacturers bother with trying to make all of their guns California-compliant, so you won't have as many options available. There are still plenty of choices for you, but the exact make and model you want might not be available in California. I'm pretty sure California has banned all mail-order ammo sales. I think all ammo sales have to go through a dealer now, which just makes buying ammo more expensive and cumbersome. If you want to get a concealed carry license, you may have a bunch of hoops to jump through. California is a "may issue" state which means they may or may not issue you a license, but they don't have to. From what I've read, it varies greatly by location. More rural/conservative areas are more likely to issue the permits, whereas places like San Francisco will never give a permit to a regular citizen. All of the above is from what I've read/heard from other people, so some of it may be wrong. Go check out California-specific gun forums, such as https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/index.php to get more and better info. Good luck. |

All ammo is hard to get right now, and much more expensive than normal. That said, I've had better luck getting 5.56 than pretty much anything else (9mm, .300 blk, .50 bmg, etc...). I've been able to get Federal and IMI in large quantities over the past couple of months.

Honestly I don't know it's not really clear. I guess if you look at the bans yes. But at the same time they ban things like the CZ Scorpion but not the Kriss vector. I don't see the logic.
Or they wait for now because they know they can't buyback everything they would want to ban is a another theory I have. |

It's a good round no question. Although I personally prefer the AR-10 platform to the SKS or AK platforms. And lately my AR-10s are in 6.5 cm
The problem with the gun world (although also true with the car world, etc...) is that 1,000 guys will have 1,000 differing opinions (and often defend them angrily). On the upside, really there's lots of good answers, and only a few bad ones. |

Yeah, 50-60 cents a round is pretty common these days. Not fun. But yeah I look online (crow shooting supply, midway, buikammo, ammo seek, etc...). I'm also a bit picky about what brands I'll run, which makes it harder. But I have a few thousand rounds of 5.56 currently which is nice. I can't find 9mm online anywhere, but my local shop got some in yesterday and I was able to get some. Crazy times!

The SKS is normally chambered in 7.62x39mm, a Soviet/Russian designed cartridge. The 7.62x51 (.308 Winchester) is American designed. They are different cartridges and are not interchangeable.
There may be an SKS that shoots 7.62x51 (.308), but it would be rare I think. The more common alternative to the standard Russian 7.62x39 is the Russian 5.45x39, which is the standard ammo for the AK-74. There are plenty of AK-type rifles available in both the 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 as well as other cartridges including the American 5.56x45 and others. None of the above cartridges will work in place of the others. You can not substitute a Russian 5.45 for an American 5.56. As a general guidline, Russian designed guns and ammo are lower quality and lower cost than American designed guns and ammo. |
