Over night temps here have been in the mid 40s. I put my winter wheels on Friday

Another hot one today. 92°F right now with a high forecasted to be 96°F. Trying not to complain too much. I’m sure it’s hotter in other places, like hubbahubba’s neck of the woods, for instance. What say you, Hubba? What’s your temps like today?

Took the wife out today to see the colors and saw lots of maple trees like the one in your photo. Also some varieties that were lighter and some darker. She (the plant and tree expert in the family) could identify some of them by name, but not all. No matter, as all are at or near peak and are spectacular.

We had a dry summer and I was afraid that fall colors would be only dull rust and brown. We've had that type of fall before after a dry summer. So far, it appears we're going to have an average fall as far as colors go.

Got pelted with pea-sized hail yesterday near Lake Norman (heart of NASCAR shops country just north of Charlotte) in a strong thunderstorm, with the temperature dropping from 72F to 48F in only a few minutes.

Back at Chez Vreihen, we're seeing something like our 8th weekend of rain in a row.....
