There is no way a kid could have figure that out if they were in a car seat in the back where they should have been. You have parent driving around with a kid in the passenger side front seat watch everything they are doing and this is what happens.
My daughter, at the age of 1 (meaning she sat in the back facing backwards), had already learned to put on the driver's seat seatbelt, put the key into the ignition (wasn't strong enough to turn it over), and play with the signals. And no, we never taught her. We just put her in the driver's seat one day, standing upright and holding onto the steering wheel, and she just casually leaned down and picked up the keys and did all of the above.

So, yeah, not much of a stretch for a 3-year-old.

Wow thats funny. Luckily he didn't pop it into reverse, then it could have been a horror story.

Think it should, given they always pull it up al the way, kid that young shouldn't have enough strength to lift while holding the button. Then again, this kid is pretty smart, .

1. it must be a US thing not to put the hand brake on. i saw it in another thread as well. everybody here uses it and if we park on a hill or something we put in a gear.
2. true, forgot it up one day in my old civic. smell like something burned afterwards but it was fine.

I always put my car in gear, even if I'm on a slight incline. I'd rather be safe than sorry and having redundancy in things eases my mind.

That kids funny, still be pissed but funny. Any damage to the car?

In my manual cars I always left them in gear with the ebrake on. My auto's I only use the ebrake on steep hills.
