ZZR250 is perfect for you, if its your first bike. Insurance isn't killer and it's still one hell of a fast bike.

If anything buy a 250 and thne get yourself a R6 later. Hell of a fun bike.

Ok here it is. from my experience on learning how to ride a bike andfrom what your looking for it comes down to this. I will strongly recommend a 600. why? well, riding these bikes is a fast learning curve. and you will quickly grow out of a 500! trust me it wont take long.

I also took from your comments that you want a wider bike with more body work. this is perfectly fine and will set you more towards a cruising style of streetbike.

your an average sized rider and whether you choose a 500 or a 600 wont make a lick of difference in ur insurance. but rather what class will change it.

I recommend that you get either a gsx600 or katana600, yzf600, etc... these types of bikes fit well into your budget leaving you room for the necessary safety equipment and look good and handle great for a street ride.
