beef? no beef. don't know the guy. nothing against him. i hope he appreciates the criticism, no matter who it comes from. I like a lot of his work on his flickr - he's got some great stuff in there. Cars are obviously his thing and he ventured into a model shoot. I bet next time, his model/car photos are rockin' solid. i hope. that's all.

where i work there's always creative differences.
some things are common knowledge and some things that are more personal regarding style that gets critique. And those are the worse. Getting criticism among another creative can get very personally, because you can dig into detail and thought process, know what I mean. I would take it as a personally attack as a creative person - what you said. OP doesn't need to be slam'd - but then again when you're in an open forum be prepared so OP shouldn't be surprised. That's his style and ur step'n all over it. ur educating him on basic photography - though framing to lighting and subject matter. i find that quite amusing. Rodi - u got balls. or some will say u got some nerve. always a good post from u.

i see your point, but some of the issues stated for No. 1, 5 and 7, specifically, should really be noted. Those aren't style attributes - those are amateur errors that, if he read them, will never worry about again. Do you not agree with those points (regarding framing, etc)? Aren't they supposed to be common knowledge? I wasn't intending to be amusing or harsh, but felt those points needed some criticism for betterment.
I come from architecture design school - critiques are hated but everyone knows how beneficial they are.

well... definitely "head in a clean spot". Her dark hair needs to be obvious and not blend into the dark background. Rodi does make some good points... but perhaps he didn't use the kindest language to express them.

stop, you're making me blush.
so just because i'm able to give criticism, that means i think i'm any good? until i'm paid to do just that, i'm not that good. making me want to take a trip to the Porsche dealer. and this time they won't be kicking me out for fucking the tailpipe on their Turbo S.

I think that Rodi made good points, but I think that he's being a little rough, If the client liked the photos (or whoever was paying for them) then everyone should be happy.

If the client is happy, then all is well... but everyone doesn't need to be happy. I agree rodi was rough, but there was a lot of truth to what he said.

That is not a rough critique.
When you professor listens intently to your presentation about why your design is better and solves the problems at hand and you built your model this way because.... etc.... And they he proceeds to verbally rip your project to shreds, then slides the model you spend 4 weeks building onto the floor, then politely covers your lightly damaged model with your color renderings only to step on the model and renderings as he goes to the next presentation.... That's when you've had a rough critique. Anyone who has been to school for design or architecture etc... has experienced this. And we all learned very quickly from those critiques. All of Rodi's points are valid, not some of them. And as Rodi said, the op's thing is cars and it's tough to get out of what you're comfortable with and start shooing a model. Unless you have an exceptional model you have to put just as much time into posing your model as you do into composing your photo or configuring your lighting. Adding that third dimension doesn't always come out perfect until you get some experience doing it. Rodi eluded to this point as well and i bring it up because i'm not claming to be a photographic genius either; but these are basic things that are wrong with the pics. Basic things that can be forgotten by great photogs when in a situation they are not comfortable with. I also assure you that should Rodi not believe the op's potential is far greater than the work posted, he would not have taken the time to critique. He's not hear to bash peoples work. Neither am i but as i looked at each photo i thought the same things that i found Rodi had said a few posts below. I came back to this thread wondering how on earth did it get this long.... i guess lots of people are worried about the op's ego.
