I would say top 20-30 although 30 would be a bit of a stretch. I am sure people will come in with stories about this or that person they know who went to University of Phoenix and landed a $100K/yr job. However those are definitely the exceptions and not the norm.
Also, getting a MBA from a low ranked school doesn't mean you won't be able to find a job. It's just not worth it, i.e. considering the tuition and other expenses and opportunity costs you might be better off spending the time on something more practical and still along the same lines like accounting which will cost you much less and has a better market. |

and the biggest difference is the work load at the school. i have friends that go to the so called "good" state schools(Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State) and the work load cant compare to any of the top schools. not even close. it doesnt mean the school isnt good the work load is just very light thats one reason why the best schools are the best schools. kids learn how to work there asses off day and night and when they graduate, businesses know they will continue to work hard. that along with a world class education in hard to pass up and also state schools have large graduating classes. so if you do choose a state school you gotta finish top of the class or interviews will be harder to come by

The only reason why i went to NYU is because I wanted something different, and for you to say state colleges are below isn't correct. Also the work load was probably the same that i receive at nyu. I don't think you have enough creditably to talk about this topic unless you went to a state school then a private top school......like me to get in the business school you need a 3.5 and they don't just accept anyone for their business school.. |

B-school... it's not what you'll learn, it's who you'll know.
Enough said.

in grad school, i met a group of rutgers business undergrads, and wasn't too impressed. admittedly, it was a small sample population (4-5), but in the context of demanding group work/projects (assumption being that being required to crank out high quality deliverables in a short amount of time can be a proxy for overall job performance).
an an unrelated note, however, i will say that rutgers seems to be desi central. being "abcd" myself, i fail to understand how these children of mostly affluent backgrounds end up there. to me, its a lack of work ethic (i.e. if your parents are sufficiently affluent, you should be able to take some kaplan prep or princeton review courses: if you put enough work into it, relative intelligence shouldn't matter as much). my .02. ok so maybe rutgers is the different than the rest but i know plenty of people at rutgers and they say the work is pretty easy. my gf is in business at the University of Delaware and she probably does less than 4 hours of hw a week. my friend is at Maryland as a mechanical engineer major. he says he goes weeks sometimes and gets almost no work. also my friends at penn state say that the work load is very light. so maybe rutgers is different but the are many state schools out there that are a lot less work than the top privates. and p.s. its credibility

If you're shooting for law, that's a different game. Law schools will look @ 2 things, ur undergrad GPA (and institution) and your LSAT score pretty much determine which school you get into (assuming you're not an underrepresented candidate). Having that in mind, the best thing to do is to strike the right balance between the school ranking and the GPA you can get out of that school. For example in CA, getting a 3.9/4.0 GPA from a Cal State university will be better for your law school application than a 3.4 from a UC, even if the UC is ranked considerably higher than the CSU. Also, your undergrad major won't make much difference so go into a major that's easier to boost your GPA. |

LSAC recalculates your undergrad GPA based on its own rules. For example if you fail a class, retake it and pass, your GPA will only include the retake but LSAC adds the fail grade back in so try to keep your transcript as clean and straight as possible. 3.8 is good enough to give you a shot at t14, contingent upon your LSAT score of course. |

From what I have heard, it's not an absolute must but certainly a huge help. The point is that you should be comfortable with science and technology. I have a BS in mechanical engineering (that was before I went back to school for my BA in business-econ) so I kind of have that area covered. It sure wouldn't be wise to go into patent law if you're a technophobe
