I was so full of myself that I asked him, what they do about cars that speed away from them. His response was “we will catch them eventually”

And make no mistake, we bragged about every time we ditched a cop and every time the buddy we were chasing couldn’t loose us or every time we did loose the guy following us in our game. We roasted anyone who screwed up and ended up in the ditch or on the curb. We just didn’t film it and post for the world to see. But we were total A-holes.

40+ yrs ago, when I was 17-19 years old, my circle of friends and I thought we were invincible(you can choose a different word here if you like), we all had cars or access to cars and for fun played ‘Tag or chase” with our cars late at night on public roads in our city. Every once in a while something minor would happen( slide off the road, hit a curb, run over a garbage can, end up on a lawn) but we were very very lucky. A couple of times the Police saw us and that resulted in a chase, we would split up and loose them, that would just create more confidence in our presumed driving skill(It was all luck)
It got so some of us drove like we were in the Cannonball run almost all the time and if a Police Officer saw us we would just take off.
I eventually got caught one night, charged with and plead guilty to “dangerous driving” sentenced to 14 days in jail that I served on weekends so I could finish my college term.

That ended the whole Tag/ ditching cops thing for all of us. It also ended most/any rule breaking for us all. Some speed a little.

We/I look back a can’t believe no one got hurt(the risks we took were very selfish) none of us drive like jerks now, some of us have track cars(Miatas) and some have hobby cars (65 Mustang, 73 Trans Am, newer Corvettes)

I’m probably the most ashamed of my actions of anyone in our group because while the idea of the game wasn’t mine in the first place, I certainly was one of the strongest proponents to keep playing once we figured it out. I base this on the full stop that occurred once I was out of the picture.

I posted because even though I didn’t watch the video, the comments from it here, reminded me how foolish and selfish some of us can be when we are young.
As a teenager, we used to play this game in MN, but didn’t run from the police or speed all that much. We would basically just drive around and accidentally meet up. We called it “The Game” and would eventually meet up at “The Spot”, lol. We weren’t very creative
