seriously!
I actually really love the mustang! I just can't picture me driving one. Reasoning? No logical reason at all except years of brainwashing. They seem to be an amazing car for the value and I love how they look too. |

That's the only kind of herspers!
In all honesty though I have really grown to appreciate the wizardry of the active diff during Corona lock-down non-essential drives/hooning. Makes slides super easy to control. All you have to do is counter-steer a little, hold it, and the car will sort itself out. Then recover steering. No such thing in a Torsen diff world. Lighting fast, and sometimes large corrections are required to stay undead. In both directions as the dif transfers power based on which wheel has load. This is one hidden benefit of learning to drive at the limit in a car like the Mustang. If you're not on top of it, it will try to kill you. Teaches you a lot. Took me a year to force myself to stop making corrections so the diff can work it's magic and straighten things out. Makes driving something like an M2 a walk in a park by comparison, super approachable even by inexperienced drivers.

And yes, I agree, this might have some potential. IMO, the Mustang series is just never as "serious" and seems to need significant extra development to bring them up to that level. The GT350s were far too expensive to justify the performance, but performance was finally pretty good. PP2 and Bullit were the point that they finally got "serious" IMO. It's just that they should have had these cars back in 2016-2017 or so. The Mach 1 may finally surpass the 1LE with a healthy edge, but man it's been such a long time to get here. But again, I like the 350, PP2, Bullits and this Mach 1 concept. Finally.

Some updates:
Mach 1 aiming for 450lb-ft and 525 naturally aspirated herspers. Also more credance to it replacing the GT350. Good to see a tq increase, and HP numbers on part with GT350 if true. https://fordauthority.com/2020/06/20...led-exclusive/ "How, exactly, engineers will boost the Coyote’s output for the Mach 1 is currently unclear, but given just how receptive the free-revving dual overhead cam engine is to modifications, squeezing out the additional power should not be all that challenging. One interesting thing to keep in mind is that very few have upgraded the camshafts in the Coyote. With pushrod engines, the cam is one of the first things that gets replaced by those looking to squeeze more power from their engines. In fact, even the previous-gen Shelby GT500 has become a hot candidate for aftermarket cams, but not the Coyote. This is mostly due to cost associated with upgrading four cams in a DOHC engine like the Coyote, compared to just one in a pushrod motor. Additionally, little has been done when it comes to upgrading the heads in the Coyote, so there’s potentially some room for improvement there. But in all fairness, tuners haven’t really needed to do much in this area, since E85 and a solid tune will deliver around 500 wheel horsepower from the third gen Coyote."

I like that they put the GT350 trans in the Mach 1. Standard manual sucks compared to the Gt350’s |

Yup, virtually released today. But now I only hear 480hp and 420lb-ft? I guess they'll leave the rest to the aftermarket and Ford Performance. Still hoping the production version will be uprated a bit. 500hp would be a good target.

But each time I hear one, I run home and check pricing. But then I wonder why they're for sale and just go back to looking for a 997 GTS or a V8 Aston with a manual. |

I'm moving away from the BMW platform - I have ISTA and can do most of the work on my own but the cost of replacement parts and special tools required to get to every nook and cranny is getting annoying. |

The only thing still missing is the trick active diff the Camaro has.

I'm stuck between making a jerkoff motion and logically realizing that this will likely the best real-world mustang ever built up until now. I almost feel like the Vodoo was a mistake for Ford, just because it kinda didn't work that well when it came to not going pop, but had such amazing numbers that it's pretty hard to follow up.
I'm angry they're basically giving the GT350 a 40 hp nerf. At the same time, i'd absolutely give up 40 hp if my car still made close to 500 and gained a shitton of reliability. At the end of the day, if you were to tell me to build a Mustang from the parts bin that I would absolutely have to pay for if it broke, this is basically what i'd make. I'm glad it's getting the nicer transmission. |

Hopefully this Mach 1 will retain many of the aspects everyone loved from the GT350 but like others have stated some added reliability. Still a bit sad about the discontinuation of the 350, my favorite variant of this generation.

And looking at aftermarket and even Ford Performance support, you can get Ford developed CAI and tune and gain 25hp on the S550 today. I'm sure this will also extend to the Mach 1, meaning you can in fact get a 500hp motor while maintaining the factory warranty. I'm curious to see some comparos versus the 1LE as well as Lightning Lap results and feedback.

I'm glad they aren't charging GT350 money for one, but it's still $9k more than a stripper GT PP2 for essentially the Tremec and a tune. Losing the Voodoo at that price point is a tough sell for me.

When I price out a Camaro exactly the way I would order one it's $46.7k, and it also has a trick active diff. I am interested to see the Handling Pack price, because this is where you have all the GT350 track durability parts, like rear axle cooler, GT350 Oil cooler, aero (including under car, where it really counts), and trans cooler. But it looks too expensive compared to the Camaro. So unless it can somehow be significantly quicker around a racetrack, the Camaro now wins the value for speed battle.
