Same tire choices as Monaco? Does that seem odd to anyone else? Super Softs at Monaco was one thing. Lap after lap at 200mph followed by heavy braking is going to be interesting.

Since Mercedes opt not to use their development tokens to upgrade their power units, we will see how will Ferrari catch up this weekend.

I'm not sure about the track surface, but there's relatively less sweeping corners in Montreal compare to other tracks like Shanghai or Malaysia.

Thus lateral rubbing against the tires are fewer and its more of brake, turn and squirt the gas type of track.

And the temperature and the given the track surface is probably less abrasive, thus the two softest compound. Also Pirelli would want to give the race about 2-3 pit stop windows for mixing strategy.

Mercedes explains decision to send cars out in rain

Mercedes explains decision to send cars out in rain

http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2015/06/0...s-out-in-rain/

Mercedes has explained why it sent both its drivers out during the rain in today’s second practice session, which led to Lewis Hamilton crashing his car.

Hamilton and Nico Rosberg had left the pits on intermediate tyres even though rain was falling increasingly heavily.

Executive director for technical Paddy Lowe explained the drivers had been sent out “to do some practice race starts – that’s a normal part of our P2 programme”.

“Because the programme was very condensed in the short window of dry weather that we have we chose not to do those practice starts during the dry period but then to go out before it became very wet indeed and try to get two or three race starts done.

“Unfortunately the conditions worsened quicker than we’d anticipated and the conditions caught Lewis out in an unfortunate manner. But we’ll get it sorted for tomorrow, it should be all fine.”

Hamilton had been told to come in to switch to full wet weather tyres shortly before he crashed.

The marshals who recovered Hamilton’s car appeared to cause further damage to it with one of their cranes. “We were worried watching that,” said Lowe. “I think there’s some minor damage to the rear end which came from the crane handling, but nothing serious.”

Lowe also confirmed the team has made changes in its approach to deciding race strategy following the call which cost Hamilton victory in the Monaco Grand Prix.

“There was some problems with the software so we’ve fixed some of the bugs that were in that,” he said, “changed some of our communications and freed up some of the people involved so they have a bit more capacity.”

I don't know what is the saddest part, Benz almost 1s pace advantage over the rest or McLaren's pitiful performance. Alonso apparently "put his helmet down slightly forcefully", that must have taken an enormous amount of restraint. Just get the Benz engine back into that disaster of a car. Honda, just keep building Corollas and dress them up with ugly beaks for the Acura lineup and keep dreaming of the glory days. You fell a sleep at the performance helm and let fat , arrogant finance guys with no interest in anything but $$$ run your company for too long....

Kimi was about .6 from Lewis and .3 from Nico, If Vettel didn't have reliability issues, I think that gap would have been even smaller. .6 is still a big gap though, hopefully Vettel can make his way through traffic before Mercedes pulls out a big gap. Wishful thinking..

Only time I'd want Vettel out is if he takes both Mercedes with him. Lol

While the MB, Ferrari, and Renault engines have similar sounding exhaust notes, the Honda has that sound as if it needs its timing advanced...and boy are they slow accelerating out of the Senna Corner.
