You are right, - it will be insane but we already had a trip booked to Universal Studios and thought "Well, since we're already going to be there...why not visit the Magic Kingdom and Epcot to see the 50th celebrations?" Those are the only two parks we planned to do (just came back from DisneyLand 2 weeks ago), and for the MK day we would also purchase the Christmas party tickets for the night.

Got a room booked at our favorite resort - Boardwalk. But stupid room price is $654/night. Right now the Universal trip is a done deal but we're still teetering on the whole Disney add-on...
What in the holy hell!! The ticket prices for these parks are bad enough as is. I enjoyed Disney as a kid, we went many times, but as an adult I just can't. I go every 5-10 years only after my memory of the last horrible experience evaporates.... then as soon as I walk in it comes rushing back to smack me in the face for being a fool!

Maybe if I was like... close the park down for me level rich it would be a fun experience, but as a regular schmuck I think I would rather pay $700 to NOT have to endure going there.

Back in 2000 IIRC my aunt was in Disney (MK park) and they closed 1/2 the park down because Mariah Carey was there. They had to shift everyone to the opposite side of wherever she was. I would have be LIVID.

Back on topic, pushing for a Chicago trip for a weekend after Asheville. Never been up the Willis (Sears) tower.

Room prices seems to have jumped everywhere. Recommended a B&B in Charleston, SC to my brother in law and he told me prices were $500 / night. Last week, we rented a 2 BR AirBnB for family in the same building we have a condo in Asheville for $295 / night. Some friends just booked a 2BR in the same building in early November for $595 / night. Hotel across the street in $700 / night, which is insane.

Copper Canyon and east side of Sea of Cortez later this month. STRUGGLING, since we start/end in Tucson. I seem to be able to rent a 12-passenger van here in Cali to get there, but when I put in my return dates for anywhere near Tucson, NO vehicles are available.

NYD we head south on a 10-day cruise of Mexico.

I *was* planning our usual trip to St. Simons Island for the Christmas break with a stop at the retirement lot in SC up until 20 minutes ago. My DW just received a job offer (yay!)...but it doesn't come with vacation time for a year.....

What kind of BS company hires people without eligible vacation for a whole year? I swear corporate America just keeps getting worse and worse.

A year is extreme but quite a few companies will allow new employees to accrue vacation time but not take it for some period (e.g., 3 mos.).

Right....but a whole year?

My wife and I have been watching House Hunters/House Hunters International lately....we actually noticed that a LOT of recent episodes start off with the home seeker saying something like "I/We just got so sick of working in corporate America..."

A year is extreme and hard to see that being widespread or lasting long. Most companies are desperate to hire people right now.

I was surprised to see that they are offering a 401(k) with match and paid holidays on day one, along with pro-rated sick time. Even if they did offer pro-rated vacation, it would never be enough for a proper two-week trip. Guess I'll be crossing an overnight Amtrak ride off of my bucket list in a few months and skipping the SC stop, since my doctors won't let me drive alone for more than 20 miles. Cue the Arlo Gurhrie music - "I'm the train they call the City of New Orleans. I'll be gone 500 miles when the day is done."

Her new job is quite literally a crap job, but somebody needs to handle the effluent.....

Does she at least get to accrue it to take later or is there literally no vacation for a year?

We would escape to Italy with a few goats, a villa on the side of a hill with. A small vineyard. Walk to the market every morning for fresh goodies…..ahhhh I can see it now ❤️❤️❤️

Check out Scott’s Cheap Flights or this app called Secret Flying. They both provide similar information. In the last few days alone I have received flight deals to Barcelona, Madrid, Estonia, Helsinki, Iceland, and a few other European countries. The price ranges from $250-400 round trip. Even saw notification for California to Hawaii for $176.

Went to phoenix, nashville, and LA this past year. Will probably go to Miami again for winter or maybe San Diego.

We are vaccinated. Gf is a germaphobe and always gets any door or elevator button for me with napkin. Uses a latex glove to pump gas.

Have done St Augustine, Savannah, Asheville (a few times), Poconos up in PA, Costa Rica, and I think a few other stops so far this year. Have another trip up to PA for a good friends wedding in November, also plan to be up there towards Thanksgiving. My brother is moving back to Tampa, so hope to visit there and maybe clearwater too before the year ends if Covid doesn't get in the way.

Too bad the wedding isn't earlier. Late September to early October is beautiful in the Poconos when the leaves change colors. My family has property up in the boonies, trees everywhere. It's breathtaking in the fall.

Yeah it is really nice up there. Just calm and relaxing. A lot of solid places to ski too. I actually did my bachelor party there back in March as bulk of my friends are within just a few hours and our previous arrangements were canceled due to Covid. I'm originally from South Central PA so once the weather starts dropping I always have an itch to return home!

If you get back to the poconos before winter, make sure to visit Bushkill Falls….it’s amazing!

Thanks!! We could have flow RT from Louisiana to Hawaii about a month ago for $430. The RT flight for Mexico was more expensive. I'm going to check both out. We are pretty flexible so if something good like that come up and we can juggle work we will roll out.
