Not all of us older guys look or act old (and I intend to do my best to keep it that way, lol. Come to think of it, time to go to the gym )

John[/QUOTE

I'm 71, and tired of all this stereotyping of "old people"!! One of my neighbors saw me washing my Z4 shortly after I got it. He told me "You're an asshole!" And he was in his 50's!

I apologize then to all the mature guys here who are still young at heart and know how to have a good time.

I hope when I'm in my 70s I still know how to enjoy life and cruise around in a nice car.

LOL, it's cool, I wasn't offended. I hate growing old, but if you stay in shape, work out, and hang with the younger dudes and your car crowd, you'll stay young at heart. I look at guys in their 50's like Bruce Willis, Pierce Brosnan, or how Paul Newman was still "young" and racing in his 70's. You don't have to "get old", you can have a great quality of life until you're very old if you take care of yourself.............. keep on driving

Wow, you have lots of self restraint.

I have four BMWs, no wonder I get weird looks.

I've never been surrounded by more aggressive drivers, than now that I'm in a BMW... it's crazy.

Tell him its bad luck to let his car rust to hell on his front lawn! lol!

All my neighbors are really nice about my car. They always give me the thumbs up. I have even heard them saying "you should see what kind of car that guy has in his garage!".

Not to stereotype by race but what ethnicity and age are your neighbors?

Wow! What a douche...
Unless you misunderstood him, and he really thinks that was bad luck to wash car? But "showing off" part was probably harder to misunderstand.

In any case... Just don't pay any attention to him, and / or come over and try to chit-chat with him. Unless you do want to have hating neigbors, you might as well make some attempt and may be he will realize what an a$$ he is for hating someone just because of a car.

Good luck!

Interesting... Most people I see give me a thumbs up or a wave and seem to admire the car. I get the occasional kid in his built up Honda or whatever that tries to street race me but I always decline and just ignore them. Not worth the trouble or the risk. Some guy in a Dodge Neon did it a few months back. Got next to me, revved his engine and took off after I glanced at him. I didn't do anything, but I guess he thought it was on. He got pulled over, there was a cop in the gas station right in front of us, lol...

Possible responses . . .

"Thank you for letting me know this, but I don't have to worry about luck, I own a BMW"

"Oh no, I'm not showing off. I just have a problem with a lot of crap coming over from my neighbor's yard so I'm trying to keep on top of things, thanks though"

"I heard the same thing just yesterday. Why don't you wash it for me ?"

One of my work colleagues in his 50's called me a "wannabe wop" for buying a BMW. Apparently he has some sort of statistical analysis of the ethnicity of BMW owners in our city and they're all Italian (I am not therefore I am a wannabe).

He then proceeded to tell me about the time he got cut off by a 3 series in traffic and got him back by flooring it and flying past him in his 2005 V6 Nissan Maxima all with his teenage son cheering him on. Went on like it was his greatest achievement. Gotta stick it to the man I guess.

Now to be fair this guy is the biggest douchebag I've ever met in my life. It wouldn't matter if you have a more expensive car or a more expensive haircut he's always trying to one up you or put you down for having it if he can't. And he's a lazy one too. Gotten by in life out of sheer luck IMO. Wouldn't waste time thinking about him except this thread reminded me of that story. Not suggesting he'd buy a BMW if he could afford it (maybe he could) but even so get over yourself.

Honestly other than him not many people have made negative comments to me related to the car. Most people around here really don't care what you drive as far as I can tell which is OK by me. Not like our cars are for royalty either; pretty sure you can get a CPO'd 128i or 135i for less than a new fully optioned Honda Accord from what I can tell. How come nobody goes up to owners of those cars when they're washing it and make rude comments? All perception.

e39 525D
e60 530D

I now have a Man Cave (Barn), several miles from my house, not to far to drive, but far away so the wife dont walk the dogs to where i am.

And that has a 200sx Nissan drift car and a r34 skyline in there as well.

I have an idea....divert his attention by start wearing a CCW. Its legal in FL as long as you have a license He'll stop worrying about your BMW and may even stop himself from bugging you while you wash you car
