Most of you hit on some really good westerns. I enjoyed Fistful of Dollars and Hang 'Em High

Tombstone, if you haven't already seen it. If you have, watch it again. Great western.

1993. Too new?

Nah, not too new!

I live very close to Tombstone. About 2/3rds of the movie was shot at the nearby Mescal Movie Set, which is about 40 miles from town. Last year I got to tour it with the local BMWCCA chapter. SO many great westerns shot there over the years. Any fan of westerns should definitely check it out when visiting the Tucson area (it's about 50 miles to the south of Tucson).

Sounds good to me. Means you get more suggestions on good westerns, which will help you and your sons find more films to watch together.

My wife watches that every time it shows up on weekend afternoon TV. I've seen it (in pieces) many times over. Still a great Western flick.

It's a very long drink of water but Sergio Leon's "Once Upon a Time in the West" is on my annual watch list. If the 2 hr 30 minute running time doesn't scare you a very slow pace might put most viewers off. But it's an epic up there with Lawrence of Arabia. Henry Fonda as the villain has so many great moments. An absolute classic.

Jeremiah Johnson. 1972. Robert Redford and Will Geer. Directed by Sydney Pollack.

Different kind of western:

"A Mexican-American War veteran, Jeremiah Johnson (Robert Redford), heads to the mountains to live in isolation. Woefully unequipped for the task at hand, Johnson is fortunate to come across a seasoned mountain man (Will Geer) willing to teach him the necessary survival tactics."

Tried to get into that film - gave it 30 mins and wasn’t able to continue. Just not my style but I can appreciate and respect the artistry involved is off the charts. Might revisit it when my 12 yr old isn’t by my side watching with me.

Come Hell or High Water

Unforgiven

Come Hell or High Water is the best present day Western movie I've seen.

Paint Your Wagon is a musical, set in the west. Clint Eastwood is in it and sings. I believe this is his only singing role, and for good reason. But I still enjoy this movie.
