Aeronautical engineers must be different. They don't smell like the inside of a fake leg.

It probably depends on the field.
I'd say the most blunt answer is that the Engineering offices don't typically see a lot of customer traffic. Thus, the work environment is probably neglected by the company and the engineers themselves do whatever they want to get the job done. Think of it like this, when was the last time you looked inside and cleaned inside your computer? The engineering office is like the computer of the company.

"engineering office" can be interpreted in many ways. did you mean a "software company"?
if so, yes, mixture of curry sweat and a belief that showers are meant to be taken on weekly basis create unpleasant working conditions. We had a few guys move here from our "overseas office" recently, and it got sooo bad, that HR was getting multiple complaints on daily basis, so they had to step in a make an ultimatum to them. Shower daily or GTFO. I shit you not.

Lets get this right are we talking about real engineers or programmers, many programmer would like to call themselves engineers but in really they are not. In the past Electrical and Computer engineers use to design and built the systems and write the code today they have people just to write code. Prior to a degree in computer sciences and programming these same individuals would have gotten some liberal arts degree since they are mostly antisocial and lack social skills.
I know that was long winded but I suspect you're talking about programmer and they are not engineers. I am engineer and have been in the field a long time and true engineer are clean and detail oriented and I have work with many engineers over the year and never had this issue with any of them. Programmers and especially one from other countries they have no personal awareness of themselves and their smells. Also they have bad bath room habits, especially if there are of a particular religious background since it not clean to touch one's dick so they whip it out and stand there and let it spray wherever. I worked at a place where they hire a bunch of programmers from over seas so fresh of the board describes it well. With in a short period of time our bathroom in a building less then a year old began smelling really bad. The company complain to the Janitorial company about not cleaning they said they were but there was piss all over the floors and wall. Found out it was the new comers. The company had to bring someone in to teach them proper bathroom habits in the US and they had to hold their dicks to piss and use soap to clean up afterwards. To know if they are real engineers ask them if they can design and build hardware, if not they are not engineers. They are wantabe engineers and explains the issue you are dealing with. The problem they are from India and no one taught them proper hygiene. They come over here and live as they lived in India and do not realize they need to change. Like I said when I worked at the one company, we had a large group come in fresh from Indian and our new facility smell like a cesspool. Our Management and HR literally had to hire someone to teach them how to properly act in the US. Told them their habits were not acceptable in the US especially peeing on the floors and stuff. After that the problem slowly went away.
Anyway if it was programmer I do not care if they are born in the US or not most of them have have not concept that they offend people with their lack of personal hygiene and such. |

The office that I have to walk past to get to my office,
70% white dudes, 15% asian 15% indian and 5 very handsome women... Man I hate engineering...I got my MBA so i can skip out on the field...but then the economy tanked and im' stuck! The day i get out of engineering I'll be so freaking happy I'll just get a bottles of Fabreeze punch the engineers and sit on them while i Fabreeze the shit out of them screaming "Why do you stink so bad and why are you chasing fat chicks!" |

At least they aren't allowed to smoke in the office anymore. I'm surprised how many staff in the past 2 offices I worked pause outside with their death sticks.

Their scent is their good luck and good fortune...
... without it, they cannot be productive, they must bring their environment with them... PS: i shower at least once, if not twice a day... wouldn't be able to skip it!
