Lasers are not more efficient than LED. That's a big reason why laser weapons are difficult to make- most of the energy goes to waste heat.
Why are people worried about laser detectors? The headlights aren't UV. The light coming out of the front of the car isn't even a laser- it's, basically, flourescent...just with a different energy source for exciting the phosphers. Good thing, too. Why would you want wide angle headlight replaced by a little blue dot somewhere out in front of you? |

Makes sense, I think more low end cars are going to start including Xenons and luxury brand makers need a better lighting option for their higher end models. Because what's the big deal about Xenons if a Kia has them too?

Have they even perfected LED low beams? Last I heard, they had cooling issues (needs a fan to cool it down).

"system that automatically illuminates pedestrians in good time" - I was reading random snips and read this as "eliminates pedestrians in good time". Good idea for an aftermarket upgrade of lasers :-)

The seems like some major greenwash bs. Someone please tell me how much fuel will this save. I have seen no difference in mpg with the lights on or off. Yeah maybe a few barrels of oil over the entire fleet. But if it costs more then to me it's a gimmic

So the new BMW i8 will have laser headlights...
Then modders will come out with made in China aftermarket laser angel eye headlights for tuner cars. BMW comes up with Gamma radiation headlights. Then modders... |

Are they using a lens to disburse the light? It seems they are. So instead if a bowl to reflect the light, its "mirrors". Edit: Oh crap...this is from 2011...my bad. |
