Those are not the guys you want working on your stuff.
That's a it of a generalization. Car guys always enjoy seeing awesome cars they don't see or work on all the time. Snapping a pic of rolling art does not = joyride.

Having that car pull into the shop is a nightmare for a shop owner. Keep it inside, make sure it doesn't get scratched, keep the other customers away from it etc it's called "babysitting" is the labor rate different then lets say the 2008 3 series that needs a water pump and valve cover gasket? No.

Also I don't see why lawyers are involved. The insurance companies need to say their peace before you would need one.

I'd imagine the shop owners work order has something verbage in it that gives the shop permission to drive the car under the car owners policy.

Even if he didn't destroy it, how on earth would he justify racking up 150-200 miles during a service visit?

No way that would go unnoticed by an RS owner.

SMh. Then refuse to service it.

Local Vette shop always keeps all the cars inside regardless & these are not exotics. This particular shop is just run by a moron ahole.

There is no way in hell I even call my insurance other than to tell them who to expect a call from. No way I'm using mine to cover it.

This car went in for a header install and tune. I pretty sure they have a dyno and that is where all the testing should have been done.

People understand vehicles have to be driven after being worked on. Well, depending on the type of work. But not for 4 hours and launching the car over and over.

I bet the shop owner wanted to something to break so he could charge the 911 owner for it.

I would guess not for a 4 hour "joyride" with TC off and Launch control engaged. I've been following this from day 1 and the GT3 owner is a class act. He's been nothing but a gentleman about the incident. The shop owner needs to pay the piper......law enforcement needs to be writing many tickets for his dumb ass actions.........Phil

Yes. No need for lawyers. Insurance companies always pay top dollar without prodding.

I just read the last post from the car owner on the other forum. Things seem to be working out the way I thought they would.

I'm curious if they'll total the car but I don't think they will.

The shop owner is an ass for putting those kind of miles on that car.

The last estimates I saw were $90k of repairs, and $100k of diminished value. Selling the car for salvage and paying the owner the difference is probably the most economical option for insurance.

Clearly the answer is to repair the car with air cooled Beetle parts, sell it to China for half a mil and give the owner a new GT3 RS while rolling in the left over Benjis. That's what Mayhem would do.

I just read on Rennlist the owner has no idea ho many miles they put on it. Where did you get that info from?

Edit: I just read an article about it saying he was doing "hard launches" all over town over a few hours time.

That thread is making me want a 911.

Owner of the 911 had the ECM data pulled and Porsche told him everything that they could see. Launches, TC off, redlining the engine, etc.

Plus numerous people have told the 911 owner that they saw the car here and this time and there at that time. Which was in a span of 4 hours prior to the accident.

Waiting for the OP to update the thread this week. Apparently he can't say anything while it's under investigation but the shop might have tried "hiding" things after the wreck happened.

Lets just say that the odometer reading may have been tampered with.
