Yes yes, the good old brakes
While they are truly a big brake kit, Brembo and loved by most they certainly were not loved by me. I knew they were coming off before I even got the car, the main reason is wheel selection. I’m not a 19” wheel fan and I know that a lot of people think that 18” wheels look small and don’t like them. That is totally ok, it’s not for everyone and luckily, I don’t build my cars for anyone else but me. The total weight of these brakes is around 160 lbs, limited options for wheels and since they were brand new (181 miles when removed), I’d be able to sell them to recoup costs towards my brake setup of choice. I will admit, They did look really great and behind that stock wheel, it’s a good pairing! Now, since I had the AP Essex Brake kit on my e92 M3, I knew that this was another kit I HAD to own again. I toyed with the idea of even getting some OEM Blue Brakes but found that they also are poor for my wheel fitment needs. So I reached out to jritt@essex at Essex Parts and we chatted, he knew that I enjoyed my last kit and well I made it clear that I needed the kit for the M2C. On the e92, I had the 9668 kit which allowed for 25mm thick pads but also put a slightly hindered wheel face clearing ability on my e88s. So I ended up with the following setup for the M2C. 26 lbs and 12 lbs AP Racing Radi-CAL Competition Brake Kit
Forgot to take pics of the brakes prior to install…shocker… I did however take time to appreciate the work I did on the rear splash guard, I wasn’t going to remove the axle nut just to remove that guard so I got the dremel out and cut it off. Then of course too the wire brush mated it to the trusty Makita and went to town. Start to finish and I was deifiantelly happy on how it turned out. Now, onto the pics of the AP Essex setup, the front setup shaved off 26 lbs and the rear setup shaved off 12 lbs!!! This kit weighs less than either OEM kits and does what I need from a compatibility standpoint. While the OEM brakes looked good behind the stock wheels, these aren’t so bad either haha. [/url] |

What are the disk size on the Essex kit?
I'm also contemplating BBK for the same reason as you. The 18" tire selection is much more desirable.

Awesome work, I had a feeling, after having a glimpse of your old build, that this was going to be a build to follow.
Will be interesting to see what you end up doing for the cosmetic side of things. Looks like you've got suspension and brakes sorted already. Those recaros in the e92 would've looked awesome in the M2!

The suspension is not quite sorted. I'm going to do a complete SPL Parts arm conversion as I did on the M3, I really liked the way it tightened up things. One thing I haven't been able to find out is if the M2/M2C has solid subframe bushings or not. I need to look into that further. I plan on seats however I'm thinking Recaro SPG XL or Sparco QRT-C, it will be a nice fishbowl bucket haha. |

Love Recaro and is my #1 choice but these Sparco's are quite stunning plus it has a full CF which adds that wow factor.

I added a couple of parts to the suspension/hubs that I've been meaning to do. I'm a HUGE fan of SPL Parts, their products, knowledge and service are incredible. I'd recommend SPL Parts every single time. I worked with them to get my the right lengths for my front end links and they are actually shorter than the normal length they offer. This was specific to my application and ride height. The length on these have a range of 10.4" to 11.5". I picked up SPL Parts Front end links directly from SPL Parts and did the "Trade in a competitors product" for 25% off and found SPL Parts rear end links from jacobe92 in the classifieds.
I also knew that I was going down the path of a stud conversion. I’ve tried a few different kits in the past in Macht Schnell, Turner and Motorsport Hardware. While all of them weren’t bad, I had my eye on MSI’s product even since my M3. So It was an easy decision for me to choose them this time around with the help of slicer and as always he got me what I needed quickly. MSI is widely used in Nascar for a variety of reasons, if they deem them good enough for their cars, they are definitely the right choice for my car. |

Really enjoyed the way your E92 M3 looked, that was a super aggressive car.
The more I look at the M2C, the more I want one (in LBB). I think one of these days, if I ever sell my E36 M3, the M2C will be its replacement. The E92 M3 is my forever car. Good call on going AW. It would have been brutal during pollen season as you mentioned, but also these 100F days!

I liked the M2C when it came out but at that time I certainly didn't think it was going to be the next car or the replacement of the M3. So many possibilities for this car and it's definitely underrated. |

For CF, I ran a Bride Stradia seat, full CF and it was a "reclinable bucket" so all the features of a bucket seat but you can adjust the recline. Another option

Thank you! Schirmer does it right! They definitely have an influence on my build(s) but it won't be like having the real thing.

I originally had ordered my wheels at the start of May and so as it seems, with the current climate, they are on back order. The back order is still going strong and with that said, I ended up getting my 'winter' wheels in late spring. While our winters here in GA aren't a true snowy/icy/blistery winter, we do drop down in temp and the rain storms are no joke.
I also wanted to run Michelin Pilot Sport 4S during those months as well so these wheels fit the mold for a few reasons. I'm a big fan of BBS Wheels and while there are a ton of wheel brands/styles out there, I knew that this was my wheel of choice for my specific use. I initially reached out about these BBS M3 GT4 wheels, they were less aggressive and fit the mold of what I wanted. Specs on these are:
However, Slicer told me that there was another option. Another option that he knew I’d rather have before even talking to him about the above mentioned wheels. He presented me with these and I was immediately sold.
I absolutely love how these wheels look and fit the car. The wheel specs are absolutely perfect, zero rubbing with my P4S – 265/35-18 & 275/35-18. I'm extremely happy with the way these turned out. Need to take more photos soon but here are a couple. |

Quick pic of my interior which is all honesty is completely stock except for one thing. I opted for the BMW Performance V1 steering wheel. I really love the full alcantara wheel vs the V2 one. Go it from a forum member as part of his part out that was slightly used so it worked out well!
I really love the interior feel, I'm 6ft and I don't feel too big in this car which was a concern for me and compared to the M3, it feels the same in the front. The rear seating is definitely smaller but not by much. I'm definitely content with the interior as it sits for a while, I think. There are definitely some things that I want to do for sure. Got plenty of time to get it done! |
