Americans have it good. In America, a high school drop out can have an apartment, a job, 24hr electricity, clean running water and a car. Try having these in another country without a college degree.... IT WON'T HAPPEN!

I agree and that's why I vent in the "First World Problems" thread.

Well, not just in America. Places like Germany and France don't place such importance on education. If you're willing to work, you can find a decent job. In fact, it might even be easier in Germany than in the US.

Has anyone done that? Just quit on the spot? I prefer to give the two week notice but almost walked out the door today. Hehe
I've felt the same way. But please try building up something else before you quit.

OP, in my opinion, being bored at work is not such a bad thing. I'll take that any day over stress and aggravation.

However, I did just that a few years ago. Well, I didn't quit on the spot, I gave a 2 week notice. But I was sick and tired of my work and the environment and I decided I was done. I did not have another job lined up. However, I was financially covered. I had enough money put away to live off for a while without changing my lifestyle and my wife works and earns a decent wage.

Honestly, I don't know if I regret it or not still. Thankfully I'm doing fine, but I'm not in such a much better place that I can look back and definitively say "yea, that was the best thing I could've done".

I, too, have seen a few Ted talks and Tony Robbins videos. And I'm on this kick now that I just want a happy, stress free life. However, I have not (still to this day) done anything to steer myself in that direction. So, I'm back at work (at a new job) making the same money and working in a similar environment. This new job is better in some ways, and worse in others, hence my not knowing if I'm actually in a better place or not.

My advice, before you quit, think about where it is you want to be, and take conscious steps to reach that goal. Try and be proactive and productive and plan how you're going to spend your time off. It's easy to let a few months pass by and not do anything. Had I had my head on straight, I would have used that time off to get some formal education on a new career path.

If you're just bored, I'd say take the time to find that perfect job before leaving. However, if it's more than that or if you, like me, may want a career change, I'd give it more thought and have an action plan.

If you up and quit without warning because you're bored of work, you'll burn bridges which, as noted, you never want to do if you can avoid it and second, you'll just end up bored at home until you find new work and even then, you run the risk of being bored there or overworked and stressed.

Explore your options while still being employed, that way you won't start running out of a cash reserve and take a new job that's not the right fit for you.

Not sure why so lany of you guys brought up the first world probalen thing. Myfamily and I immigrated to the US so I know what it is like elsewhere. Let's not confuse "looking for more fulfillment and bettering ourselves in life" with "US vs 3rd world countries."

Agree. IMO Germany places high importance on education. They have placement programs for their citizens ensuring they will have johs when they are done with school. Also, Germany now offers free college for its citizens. That means anyone can go instead of like the US where many choose not to go because it is too expensive.

Yup. Your life is pretty damn good.
Lol. Every time I read your posts, I feel like I'm reading a dramatic fictional book. Did you study literature?

Welcome to my life. I have weeks where my work load is plenty to keep me occupied, but weeks where I'm not testing tools on the plant floor, I only have so many spreadsheets that need updating. Do the slow times suck? Yeah, at times, but I am grateful to even have a position where I am this comfortable. I strive to have more challenging things to tackle during the week, but it comes with the job and I've accepted it.

On the plus side, you can use the spare time to investigate something that might spark your interest and give you a goal of something to work towards. I know there is something greater out there for me, and right now I just appreciate being where I'm at until that time comes.

If i make you money, im doing my job. If market goes down or if you lose money I am the asshole. Not all clients were like that but a decent amount. Most would calm down and listen once you started explaining why they lost x%. Also there are many kinds of "financial advisors" If you want to be a wealth manager its not too bad, as long as you got a good connection to wealth or know wealthly people. They give you millions, you invest in funds, etfs, bonds, etc and you make a % every year. I was in retail and most of my business were individual stocks and commission based. Kind of like Wolf of wall St and Boiler Room pitching and selling but we were legit and did nothing illegal, i was just good at pitching stocks and selling ideas.
The job burns you out too and i felt I i was on the edge of doing riskier recommendations and trades to get that rush of the big commission that you get early on in the biz. Ive seen and know FA/brokers who got greedy and had to go arbitration due to complains and had their careers ruined.

Holy Crap, you are Nigerian? Well, in that case, good fortune has certainly smiled upon you today, good sir. While I know many of these offers come from Nigeria to North Americans, today, I wish to extend an offer from North America to a Nigerian.

In summary:- I have 15,000,000.00 (fifteen million) U.S. Dollars and I want you to assist me in distributing the money to charity organizations. I agree to reward you with part of the money for your assistance, kindness and participation in this useful project. This mail might come to you as a surprise and the temptation to ignore it as unserious could come into your mind but please consider it a divine wish and accept it with a deep sense of humility.

I am Mr Peter Attah and I am a 55 years old man. I am a North American living in the Baconopolis city of Port Pig - United States. I was the President/CEO of TOMOBA OIL LIMITED - an oil servicing company in Port Pig. I was also married with two children. My wife and two children died in a car accident six years ago. Before this happened my business and concern for making money was all I was living for and I never really cared about other people.

But since the loss of my family, I have found a new desire to assist the helpless. I have been helping orphans in orphanages/motherless homes.I have donated some money to orphans in Sudan, Ethiopia, Cameroon,Spain,Austria,Germany and some Asian countries.

Before I became ill, I kept $15 Million in a long-term deposit account in Allied Bank PLC. Presently, I am in the hospital where I have been undergoing treatment for oesophageal cancer and my doctors have told me that I have only a few months to live. It is my last wish to see this money distributed to charity organizations. Because my relatives and friends has plundered so much of my wealth since my illness, I cannot live with the agony of entrusting this huge responsibility to any of them.

Please, I beg you to help me collect the $15 Million and the interest accrued on the deposit from Allied Bank and distributes it amongst charity organizations.

You are at liberty to use your discretion to distribute the money and feel free as well to reimburse yourself when you have the money for any expenses you incur in the course of collecting and distributing the money to charity organizations. I am willing to reward you for your assistance and kindness.

Kindly expedite action and contact me via e-mail: peterattah2007@yahoo.co.uk if this proposal is acceptable to you.

Best Regards,
Mr Peter Attah

My wife just quit her job on Monday to go full steam ahead into a business we started together. Her dream is the business and mine is to own my own business. We have the support of some huge venues and have created a fantastic vendor network over the past several months. We have two mentors guiding us and so far it has been a fantastic experience. Sacrifice, well... we are moving in with my parents to use my money towards advertising.

Point is, make your own future... Pursue your dream while you are young. You have posted several threads about not knowing what you want. What I have learned is that sometimes we do know we are passionate about, just don't know how to make money from it. We are 25 and 24 years old and if we fail... well, she goes back to her own job. But we at least know we tried.

In reality, failure isn't an option and never has been for either of us. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I look back on my life and say... I could've done more.
