Not that i'm looking for private schools anytime soon, but if I had kids and wanted them to go to one, how much would I be paying for their H.S. years? I'm just asking because i'll be retiring in 20 years and would prefer private schooling to public schools around military bases.

WORK HARDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's as if you went to a private school you wouldn't have to work just as hard, so basically you're complaining that you weren't given your education on a platter. If you worked hard, got straight A's in ANY high school, you would have been fine. I worked my ass off and went to a great school where I also, worked my ass off and now I have a great job. Hard work = Success.

I think a determined student, with a very supportive family, could get good grades in any school - inner city, public, or private, in the U.S.
It's just tremendously easier if the school environment is conducive to learning, as in a private school situation. I went to a very good public school. I chose my current home location so my kids could go to a decent public school. Unfortunately, my town's public school system, although the best in this part of the state, still isn't very good. I'll be looking at private schools soon, for my kids. The best in the area are 20K/year. |

You have a very skewed perspective of the public education system im sorry that your school turned out to be such a shithole in your opinion. There is no such thing as being locked in like in your case, you were just missing the determination to get the hell out. What they put a gun to your back to force you to attend that school? what a crock of shit. Nonsensical shit like this gets me real fired up whats with all the bitching and moaning. I grew up in Los Angeles where schools here would make your school look like a princess palace but people still find the determination to attend Tier 1 universities regardless of racial or financial short comings.

Funny, I went to a public school and I turned out just fine. In fact, I'm doing better than most of the kids I know who went to a private school. I attended Cypress Bay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cypress_Bay_High_School) which last year had the largest enrollment of any high school in the country at 5500ish kids. It has been rated an A school every single year since it was opened, has some of the highest test scores/passage rates in the county, and has even been on MTV: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Paper_(TV). They have some of the best teachers in the state, everyone wants you to do well, and they push you to succeed. The school has the highest rate of passage on the AP exams in the state and I think the % of students who go on to attend college is something along the lines of 90+%.
And you know what? My school had cameras everywhere and security guards in golf carts and we were all OK. Meanwhile, I never had to pay a dime for my education (except taxes) unlike some of my neighbors who's kids were going to $25,000 a year private schools. I even attend a top 25 public university and the State of Florida pays 100% of my tuition. I'm getting the same, if not better, education then some of my neighbors who are sending their kids to private colleges that cost $30,000 a year. Sorry your experience sucked, but to be frank, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a public school. You just sound like a spoiled brat who couldn't attend the school they wanted to.
