I also live in MA and my wife got 2 speeding tickets in upstate NY (81 and 82). In both counties (one outside Buffalo, the other along I-88), they offered online driver education courses to reduce the ticket to a non-moving violation. My wife completed both, but only 1 worked, so on my current 2022-2023 policy, it shows a moving violation from 12/28/2016! Her SDIP is also reduced (99 is the max). In MA, they use the "Safe Driver Insurance Plan" for points: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/sa...ance-plan-sdip. But this is technically over 6 years we are paying a surcharge. I assume it will fall off on the next policy and her SDIP will go back to 99. |

New York allows that, if you can afford the attorney. They will change it to a parking ticket (non-moving violation) with no points and no impact to your insurance. It’s only an option IF you haven’t abused it before. My wife turned a ticket for 85 in a 65 on the Thruway into a parking ticket. The state/town still got their money but at least there was no negative impact insurance wise!
