UKL platform is basically a Mini, a FWD platform with the engine across and the Aisin transmission. All the above, is sub par next to the usual BMW treats, but you have your eyes set on the important stuff, LED taillights... I guess with the next 1 series coming soon, the smaller 1 series sedan will be on all markets.

The front isn't bad at all. That shifter is just horrible though. I know this car can't have the ZF transmission and electric shifter but does it need to be so tall? It just looks ridiculous.

I thought the original 1er hatchback was sensational. Then we got the 1er coupe which I find ugly. But it was fun!
With some skepticism I began reading this article. It's exactly really pretty is it? But it might be fun like the old 1er..... be open minded and all that. Then they lost me at "...by means of power transmission to the front wheels." That's what happens when you serve too many TsingTao at Oktoberfest |

Not exactly. It is a UKL platform like the new FWD X1. The existing 2 series are RWD or biased-RWD for the xDrive. Two completely different platforms.

If rear seat needs to have the roof cut out like it does, I don't ever want to be in this car.
Reminds me how terrible the Merc CLA is

UKL Based 2 series... So to describe this car as a 2-er sedan more accurate than calling it a 1-er... IMHO. |

I'm sure BMW are aware of the Chinese market. Rear legroom looks pretty impressive in the pictures.. headroom perhaps not so much.
Probably to some extent: "The BMW 1 Series Sedan was developed at BMW headquarters in Munich with the support of Chinese engineers." Last edited by Weiman; 02-28-2017 at 08:28 AM.. |

I doubt it. IMO all the good stuff about BBA comes from BMW, Brilliance are there because BMW are required to partner up with a Chinese company, and that's pretty much it.
Of course Chinese engineers might have a better idea what the Chinese market wants, so I'd imagine the BMW engineers did take their advice on what the product should be, but probably not on how to achieve it. I'm thinking cars from Zinoro have much more development input from Brilliance, who use the X1 simply as a base. |
