I also have an early 2011, so far hasn't had any issue but I got mine refurbished so it got a new battery at the time it was being refurbished.

Walmart are selling the series 1 in both sizes for $100 off. My daughter wanted my series 1 and I was gonna jump on the series 3 but found the Walmart sale and could not justify the price versus the advantages of the series 3.
