High cost of admission with little ROI the first 8 years or so.. Also need a degree of some sort if you want to get on with one of the majors

Have you watched the news anytime over the past five years? Airlines are bankrupt, there are a mass amount of skilled pilots out of work, and the pay is terrible for someone put in charge of many lives and a multi-million dollar piece of equipment.
