I have no allegiance to any team, just interested in the technology and the race craft of all the combatants
When one team dominates, so be it ... there are other races within the race to watch. I do not support the comments by Minardi`s Paul Stoddart that a leading - runaway team should carry a weight penalty Maybe consider a RBR only thread ?

Is it just me or is seeing several constructors producing upgrades so early in the season some what unusual? In a year of more races and the cost cap seems like the heat is being cranked up with Ferrari, McLaren and Aston Martin getting closer to Red Bull.

Because thats in essence already a very controversial thing in sports. Any member can open a topic. So if you feel you need such a thread, go ahead

I don't think it's unusual. RB barely brought more than a few tweaks last year but did start planning and developing the RB20 nearly a year ago if we think about it. We are just seeing their planned upgrades now since they are back to normal testing for WT/CFD. I have a feeling the ceiling of the RB20 is much higher, and they are still learning the setup and car a bit. On the other hand, the RB19 copies are basically close to performance capacity for the design, but the RB20 has plenty to stretch over the year and will see a bit more next year while the other designs don't pick up much additional pace and those teams can't go back to the full scale rebuild...again. |

Usain Bolt used to dominate his sport. Imagine that he would have been forced to carry a weight penalty during races "because he dominates the sport". OK, Bolt ran his track and field races all by himself, but you get the message. Porsche had no truly competitive Le Mans car in the late 60s. Ford and Ferrari dominated the field. Porsche wanted to win Le Mans. They analyzed the rules, struck a deal with an experienced British team with a US sponsor (Gulf) and build together a rocket ship: the 917. Eye for details: prototypes proved to be unstable - a widow-maker ...until bugs/gnats splatter in the US showed Porsche the way: Porsche engineers had noticed way less splatted bugs on the tail and rear spoiler of their cars. The Can Am version with a longer upwards inclined tail proved to be more stable. Observational engineering and a so-called 'Aha Erlebnis'. To improve air flow and downforce dynamics they decided to redesign the tail of the 917: inclined aluminum panels were bolted on the tail with screws and duct tape. *Bingo*: improved stability and faster lap times. Porsche subsequently perfected the redesigned tail. The rest is history. So Toto Wolff & Cº: get that zero pods design right. Adrian Newey will show that it's conceivable - Verstappen will do the rest. See from 12:20 onwards:

As regards Toto Wolff: if you can't beat Verstappen, hire him.

If you want a BOP then watch IMSA. I do and it's great racing but Formula One is the king of motor sports is a pure meritocracy.
Meritocracy noun A system in which advancement is based on individual ability or achievement. |
