Interesting ... before you disturb it, contact your local the US Fish and Wildlife or an Entomology department at a local university (many of them have field offices). You don't want to bother it if its endangered, they can probably move it or tell you how to dispose of it.

I once had a bald faced hornets nest in my yard in N GA. Impressive nest, about 18 inches long... like out of cartoon. They are one of the more nasty wasps and not to be messed with, very aggressive and dangerous. They will chase you down if they feel threatened... and you can't outrun them if they are determined to get you.

Wait till night and hit it with your pressure washer from a far enough distance that you can run like hell. Or just remove your BMW from the garage and burn the whole house down, unless it is an automatic and then keep it in the garage while you burn the house down and question your life choices.

just kidding (kind of). Setting up a camera to see if anything nocturnal is flying in and out of it is a pretty good idea.
